Igbinedion University

Igbinedion University Okada IUOis a private university in Nigeria. Located at Okada Wonderland in Okada, a town beside Benin City, Edo state. The university was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, a millionaire, philanthropist and local leader.

For latest updates, news and info about IUO visit campusflava.com

The university operates on a collegiate system of tertiary education. It has accredited faculties and courses in Law, Medicine, Natural and Applied Sciences, Business and Management Studies, Pharmacy, Engineering and the Arts and Social Sciences. It has an enrollment of about 5000 students and is supervised by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae.
The University has in its few years of existence recorded several landmark achievements including being the first private university to produce medical doctors. In 2006, a student of the university, Mr Sunday Damilola Olawuyi obtained a First Class Honours degree in the highly competitive Nigerian Bar examinations, thereby making the university the only private university in Nigeria to have achieved that feat. However, In October 2010 the university lost its accreditation from the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council but regain same on the 9th May 2011, (reference number MDCN/713/vol.11/180), which was signed by the Registrar to the Council, Dr A.A. Ibrahim.
Igbinedion University, Okada has devoted to developing and strengthening the academic programmes offered in the various colleges to meet international standards and preparing them for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the federal agency that has responsibility for quality assurance and maintenance of standards, and the relevant national regulatory professional bodies. The latter bodies include the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN (Medicine), Council of Legal Education (Law), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN (Engineering), Computer Professional Council of Nigeria (Computer Science), and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN (Accounting). The accreditation of all the programmes including medicine, law, engineering and accounting by these bodies confirms the success of these efforts and the high quality of academic offerings.
Quite early in its life, and in line with its vision of being an internationally competitive university, IUO identified external linkages and networking with (older and mentoring-capable) universities and development partners as strategic to the realization of its goals. By March 2007, the university had established linkages with the University of Westminster (UK) in the areas of staff development, diplomatic studies and ICT and Howard University, USA (telemedicine and teleconferencing), and was finalizing an exchange programme with East Carolina University (USA) in the area of global development. The university was admitted into full membership of the Global University Network for Innovation, GUNI, based in Barcelona, Spain, the European Association for International Education, EAIE, and the Network Towards Unity for Health (Maastricht, the Netherlands) amongst other external affiliations. It was also part of the Consortium of Development Partnerships, CDP, a conglomerate of universities, research institutions, governments and development partners in North America, Europe and West Africa. IUO’s Centre for Presidential Studies coordinated and continues to coordinate Module 8 of the CDP’s project on Local Contexts of Conflict and Peace-building in West Africa that involves researchers from Ghana, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, the Netherlands and Nigeria.

Kwara State University

KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, also known as KWASU is the 77 University to be registered by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC). It is the 95th University to be recognized in Nigeria.

KWASU gateway
Established by the administration of Dr. Bukola Saraki in 2009, the Kwara State University was envisioned to be more than a typical university in Nigeria. It was designed to be a center for community service and entrepreneurship. In a country where the fundamental values of volunteerism and community involvement are yet to be fully embraced, Kwara State University sets itself apart as an institution built around the community. The university recognises itself as a part of a community and is determined to make its impact felt. To champion this cause the position of a Director for Community Development was created for the purpose of mobilizing the community, setting assessment strategies, and identifying the needs within the community so that lecturers can use their expertise to impact directly on the communities. Also, Kwara State University is the first university of its kind in Nigeria that has recognised the urgent need for a university education that is focused on value re-orientation towards self-employment and job creation. The identification of this need led to the creation of the Entrepreneurship Center.

Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology

to: navigation, search
The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCF&MT) is a higher education institute located on Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria. It is a monotechnic approved by the National Board for Technical Education. The College was originally known as the Federal School of Fisheries, established in 1969 as a vocational training institute for Nigeria's in-shore fishing fleet. It was upgraded to a technological institution in 1992. The college offers courses in fisheries technology, general science, marine engineering and nautical science. It has two hostels, accommodating about 450 students.
The college is headed by a provost who reports the Minister of Agriculture. In February 2009 Samuel Azikwe Zelibe, former head of the Fisheries Department of Delta State University, was appointed provost. In January 2010 the provost warned that despite the N74 million government allocation and a N37.4 million World Bank grant last year, the college had scarcely enough funding to cover basic needs, let alone upgrade facilities and purchase a training vessel. He said more money was needed to develop a Fishery Technology laboratory, raise buildings and build roads.
The college fronts Victoria Beach, which is rapidly eroding. When the building was commissioned in May 1993 the beach was about 150 m wide. Two years later, waves had reached to within a few meters of the foundation of the buildings, forcing construction of a protective groyne.

Kogi State Polytechnic

Kogi State Polytechnic was established in 1993, and is located in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria. It is owned and operated by Kogi State. As of 2007 it was accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to give certificates in Art and printing, Business, Engineering, Finance and Science Computing at the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels. In December 2009 the polytechnic presented 16 programs for accreditation to a visiting team of NBTE officials, mainly for the new schools of Engineering and Environmental Technology, Applied Science and Management Studies. The Rector said the school had to be able to offer core engineering and technology programs in order to fulfill its mandate.
In October 2005 the Kogi state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris approved disbursement of N80 million to the polytechnic. He announced this at the first convocation ceremony, which covered academic sessions from 1992/93 to 2003/2004 and graduated 21,646 students.
In December 2005 a large number of hoodlums disrupted the matriculation ceremony of fresh students, set fire to the rector's office and damaged several vehicles before escaping. The incident may have been related to a struggle over who would succeed the rector, an Igala by tribe. In March 2010 seventy five people, including 18 students of the Polytechnic, were crushed to death by a cement truck that ran out of control. In protest, students barricaded the Lokoja/Abuja highway, set fires and vandalized vehicles.
