Selection criteria:
IPRS are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Eligible applicants are scored and ranked according to their:
academic achievement in their last completed degree; and

BENEFITS

Selected students are awarded a scholarship that covers the maximum tuition fee and €11 000 living expenses per year. However, students should be aware that the grant is not necessarily a full scholarship, and that it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance study and stay completely.

As one of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands, students from abroad must prove to the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Office) that they have sufficient financial means.

Selected students receive a scholarship for the duration of the degree programme, which is a maximum of two years for a Master's degree and three years for a Bachelor’s degree. The scholarship will only be renewed for the second (and third) year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

Total of about 55 grants are awarded each year for undergraduate and graduate studies. 20-25 graduate scholarships are available for 2017-2018, divided over the 6 Graduate Schools

Applications for the 2017-2018 academic year will open in November 2016.

CRITERIA

The applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in order to be considered for this scholarship. The applicant should:
Not have the Dutch or an EU/EEA nationality;
Hold a non-Dutch secondary school diploma;
Have been admitted to an International Master’s programme within one of the Graduate Schools mentioned above, the Bachelor’s programme in Economics and Business Economics or to University College Utrecht;
Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree (for a Master’s programme) or secondary school diploma (for a Bachelor’s programme), or an equivalent thereof;
Be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa;
Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means the student is not eligible for this scholarship.

Selection criteria:
Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:
Their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
The academic quality and results of the preceding education, as evidenced, for example, by grades, test scores, publications, letters of recommendation;
The quality and relevance of the motivation letter (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
The quality and feasibility of the financial plan in the application;
The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).

6 Staff Of College Of Education Yobe Die In Accident On Their Way To Write Exam

8 members of non-academic staff of Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua were involved in a fatal accident on Saturday Nov 26 near Dapchi on their way to Damaturu for promotional examinations. 6 of the victims of the staff of USCOEGA lost their lives in the tragedy.They have since been buried.

On hearing the sad news, Senator Lawan representing Yobe North paid a condolence visit to the families of the Yobe citizens who lost their lives in the incident.

Eiye & Viking Cultists Clash In AuchiPoly, Five Feared Dead

No fewer than five persons have been reportedly killed, following a renewed cult war between rival groups around Auchi Polytechnic, in Etsako-West Local Government of Edo State.

It was learnt that the victims were killed in different locations during a violent clash between the and Viking confraternity.

It was gathered that the incident occurred shortly after the completion of examinations for the 2016 session in the institution last Thursday.

One of the victims was said to have been killed in front of a construction company on the Benin-Auchi-Okene expressway.

Two others were reportedly shot dead behind the School of Engineering of the polytechnic and around Sabo area, respectively.

It was gathered that a disagreement had ensued last Friday between the two groups at the graduation party of an unnamed student.

‎When contacted on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, confirmed the death of two persons during the clashes between the rival cult groups.

Gwandu, however, disclosed that kingpins from the groups had been arrested and were assisting the police with useful information in their investigation.

49 First Class Degrees Awarded At ABU 39th Convocation

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has awarded First Class degrees to 49 students at its 39th convocation ceremony held on Saturday, 26th November 2016.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, mentioned that 11,731 students graduated, 2,697 students obtained Masters degree while 289 were awarded PhD degree.

President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdulrasheed Abubakar, urged ABU to pay more attention to agricultural researches, he added that a visitation panel would soon be constituted to rid universities of corruption and also look into the financial management of the institutions, including statutory allocations and the internally generated funds for the period under review.

He appealed to the management of all Nigerian universities to ensure best practices in conducting the affairs of institutions. He also commended the Ahmadu Bello University for being outstanding in the maintenance of federal character in the composition of its staff and students

Nasarawa State Varsity Back-tracks On Tuition Fee Hike

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSU) has retraced on their earlier decision to increase the tuition fee by 20 percent for the academic session 2015/2016.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mohammed Mainoma, had disclosed that the management of the university had planned to hike tuition fee by 20 per cent, which was still subject to approval by the Governing Council of the university and the state government.

The VC stated the that the monthly allocation from the state government stood at N129 million, while the institution has a salary wage bill of N229 million, leaving the management to augment with N100 million monthly from other sources, hence the need for the increase in fees.

Reports also stated that the reason for this latest action is yet to be discovered.

Returning students are hereby notified that the existing school fee regime remains unchanged also, Returning students shall report for registration and academic activities with effect from 2nd January, 2017.

Resumption of fresh students will be announced in due course.

AFIT Admission Into Aircraft Maintenance Engineers' Initial Licence Preparatory Course

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is a higher education institution engaged in imparting knowledge, skills and learning to students using specialized facilities and multi-disciplinary approach. AFIT is a centre of excellence for serious innovative research and development for the aerospace, aeronautical, aviation and allied industries/discipline.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently renewed the certification of AFIT as an Approved Training Organization (ATO). In this regard, the Institute successfully concluded its fourth licence preparatory course in October 2016 and is set to commence the next Initial Licence Preparatory Course (ILPC) for candidates that are desirous of obtaining the NCAA’s Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ Licence. Admission into the programme is open to the general public. Accordingly, applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into AFIT’s ILPC, which is scheduled to commence on 16 January 2017 for a duration of 24 weeks.

The available options are as follows:
-Airframe and Power Plant Option.
-Avionics Option.

The ILPC is a preparatory course specifically designed for military personnel and civilians in the field of aircraft maintenance. The course is meant to provide a good foundation for such individuals to enable them successfully sit for and pass NCAA examinations as a prelude to the granting of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ Licence.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
4. Candidates seeking admission into AFIT’s ILPC are required to be either of the following:
a. Holders of the Post Graduate Diploma in Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of pass from AFIT Kaduna.
b. Holders of Higher National Diploma in Aircraft Engineering Technology with a minimum of lower credit pass from AFIT Kaduna.
c. Individuals with equivalent qualifications in 4a and 4b above from other recognized institutions.
d. Candidates with a recognized aviation training with a minimum qualification of TTG certificate or ND Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent with 10 years field experience..

BENEFITS

For the academic year 2016-2017 the scholarship for the PhD course is equal to 15,012.00 euros including a lodging allowance. Students also have the right to free meals at the facilities of the Scuola Normale or at facilities with agreements with the SNS for the duration of the course, excluding the periods of academic holidays.

Successful candidates who are citizens of countries not belonging to the European Union will be reimbursed for the travelling expenses incurred for the start of the course to a maximum of 1,000.00 euros.

PhD students from countries not belonging to the European Union can request, within a year from the end of the course, reimbursement of expenses incurred for their return to their country of provenance, again up to a maximum of 1,000.00 euros. United Nations University Eisaku Sato Essay Contest (more than ¥750,000 in Cash Prize)

BENEFITS

A grand prize (¥500,000), a second prize (¥200,000) and several honorable mentions (¥50,000 each) will be awarded.

DEADLINE

The deadline for submissions is midnight (Japan Time) on 31 March 2016.

CRITERIA

This contest is open to anyone who has an interest in both the United Nations University and the designated contest topic. There are no restrictions as to age, nationality, or profession.

REQUIREMENTS
Essays may be written in either English (3,000–6,000 words) or Japanese (8,000–16,000 characters). All essays should be printed on A4-size paper and include an abstract of up to 450 words (English) or 1,200 characters (Japanese).

Submissions must be original and unpublished papers, and must include reference notes and a bibliography if other authors’ works are cited.
