St. Paul's University College
St. Paul's University College is an affiliated college of the University of Waterloo, located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
The college has two functions: first, it is a residence for both
undergraduate and graduate students of the University; and, second, it
offers classes to all University students.
For more info,updates and news visit www.campusflava.com
The residence has several traditions that are unique to the college. The fall term begins with a week-long Orientation Week that is run jointly with the other residences and faculties to acquaint incoming first-year students with the campus. St. Paul's Orientation Week is traditionally centered around winning the Golden Beanie. Early in the fall term, the entire college plays a game of capture the flag, and another game entitled "Gotcha" where the residents try to tag and eliminate each other through survival of the fittest. Also in the fall term, the male residents on Empire organize the Empire Wine & Cheese.
The Winter Formal is held in the winter term and is a night with a dinner and dance. In early March, the annual Blackforest Coffeehouse showcases talent from both the college and the region; most performers present musical acts, although other acts (such as magic or spoken word) are sometimes showcased.
Each school night, toast and several spreads are made available at Toast Time so that students can have a study break. Other regular activities include writing workshops, intramural sports teams, and community dinners.
La Bastille, a floor that houses 17 French-speaking students, is the only such floor on the Waterloo campus. A tutor from France lives on the floor from September through April to help stimulate French-language growth in the students. Occasionally, students from La Bastille will eat together over a conversation in French or watch a French movie.
Facilities that are available to students include a cafeteria with full meal service, three lounges, a library and study hall, a chapel (now mainly functioning as a multipurpose classroom), and a games room.
The College will propose a new program to the University of Waterloo administration in the area of International Development. This program will be a multidisciplinary program that teaches students about volunteerism and philanthropy and how to use it across the globe.
Events that are organised that are of interest to aboriginal students include weekly speakers as part of the NATST 370 course and the annual SUNDANCe Pow-Wow.

University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
he Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State (FUNAAB)
was established on 1 January 1988 by the Federal Government when four
Universities of Technology, earlier merged in 1984, were demerged. This
led to the creation of the first two Universities of Agriculture in
Abeokuta and Makurdi.
On the same date, Professor Nurudeen Olorun-Nimbe Adedipe was appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University. Professor Adedipe officially assumed duty on 28 January 1988. For many years the date which Professor Adedipe assumed duty was wrongly adopted as the foundation day of the University. Following a revisit to the instrument setting up the University, a Council decision at its 53rd Statutory meeting in June 2010 reverted the foundation date to 1 January 1988 as prescribed by the law which established the University.
Prior to the emergence of FUNAAB, the Federal Government had established the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB) in 1983. Then, in 1984, it was merged with the University of Lagos and had its name changed to the College of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (COSTAB), before the demerger of January, 1988.
The University started off from the old Campus of Abeokuta Grammar School, Isale-Igbein near the city centre. It completed its movement to its Permanent Site along Alabata Road in 1997, in what has been termed the fastest pace of Permanent Site development in the history of Nigerian University System.
At the initial stage, five Colleges were introduced in the University in October 1988 as follows:

Professor Ishola ADAMSON acted as Vice-Chancellor from 1 September 2006 till 24 May 2007 when the fourth and current Vice-Chancellor was appointed in person of Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun.
Professor Olusola Bandele OYEWOLE was appointed the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor at the 70th Statutory Meeting of the University’s Governing Council of Friday, 20 April 2012 and communicated through an official Letter of Appointment, signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Chief Lawrence Ayinde Olakunle Osayemi.

University of Agriculture, Makurdi
The University of Agriculture in Makurdi (UAM), Nigeria
is a higher education institution established in 1988. The current
Vice-Chancellor is Prof. D. V. Uza. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is Prof.
E. U. Amuta.
In general, the objective of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi is to put in place a properly integrated system of teaching, research and extension toward appropriate technology creation, transfer and utilization in Nigerian agriculture. This objective has several specific elements:
The philosophy of research at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi stresses research that is issues oriented, mission oriented and problem solving. To achieve this research mission, research is multi-disciplinary, as contrasted with traditional conventional approaches in general universities in which research is mainly along disciplinary lines within academic units. Researchers in the University are encouraged and supported to conduct research that cuts across disciplines and academic units.
Training at the University emphasizes strong foundations in the disciplines, a broad exposure to all disciplines in agriculture, engineering and science and the acquisition of practical skills in the agricultural and engineering fields. Training at this University recognizes that formal acquisition of scientific skills is necessary but not sufficient for preparing our students to live full lives as accomplished, learned members of an increasingly sophisticated Nigerian Society. More fundamentally, students of this University are taught to acquire new mental attitudes that enable them to distinguish between the rational and the irrational, between toughed and the bad. Students are taught to acquire new value systems that appeal to the higher public good that will ensure happiness for all Nigerians and mankind in general, The University will continue to develop its institutional capacity for inculcating new mental attitudes and independent thought systems in students that will promote objectivity and the relentless search for truth and rationality.
Grassroots relevance is a cardinal quest at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. The Cooperative Extension Centre through its training and extension liaison services coordinates the outreach programmes. The Centre for Food and Agricultural Strategy coordinates the public service support in food and agriculture. The University is forging linkages that will ensure that agricultural technologies and the output of University research reach average small scale Nigerian farmers, the intended beneficiaries of the University's research and extension programmes.
Institutional linkages are being forged with federal and state Ministries of Agriculture and other related agencies to identify areas of collaboration and technical support from the University. The University is already making its presence felt in Benue State through such collaborative programme and protects. Training programmes are being conducted for participants from other states of the federation.
A cardinal element of the strategy in Makurdi is the effective integration of research, teaching and extension by which all academic staff are expected to devote some proportion of their time to each of these activities.
In general, the objective of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi is to put in place a properly integrated system of teaching, research and extension toward appropriate technology creation, transfer and utilization in Nigerian agriculture. This objective has several specific elements:
- generating high-yielding crop varieties and livestock breeds as well as other efficient agricultural technologies that are sufficiently adapted and relevant to local environments;
- accelerating the diffusion and mass adoption of new technologies on Nigerian farms through effective linkages with state extension services,
- sensitizing researchers to the pressing needs of farmers, agro-industrialists and consumers with respect to production, processing and utilization technologies;
- bringing the fruits of science to the farm-gate in the form, amounts and time that farmers need them most;
- bringing the fruits of science to the doorsteps of agro-industrial establishments in the form, amount and time they are needed most;
- bringing to the attention of agricultural researcher pressing problems on farmers' fields with minimum delay;
- training needed manpower that is consistent with the requirements of an integrated national research-extension system; and

On January 14, 1981, Chief Adekunle Ajasin led civilian government of the Ondo State announced its intent to establish a Multi-Campus University in the state and a 16 member planning committee was set up. The outcome of the exercise led to the founding of the University in March, 1982, when the State Government created a University named Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti and appointed Late Prof. I.O. Oladapo as the First Vice-Chancellor of the University with the composition of the first council headed by the late Chief B.A. Ajayi on 28 March 1982.
The University started off in a modest way from an old catering Rest House in Akure and moved to a temporary site in Ado-Ekiti where lectures started soon after with 136 students spread in the Faculties of Arts, Science and Social Sciences while during the 1983/84 session, new courses were established to strengthen the existing faculties and they were Geology, Biology, Chemistry, French, Yoruba Studies, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Political Science and Psychology. A fourth Faculty – Faculty of Education was established and the student population increased to 724 in 1983/84 session. In the 1985/86 session, the Faculty of Engineering with three initial Departments of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical and a Department of Banking and Finance while the Faculty of Law was established during the 1991/92 session and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was established in 2001, bringing the Faculties to 8 in number and the student population of 10,000. The student population is in excess of 25,000 today in various academic programmes
Today the University has grown to a number of Faculties and academic programmes including Faculties of Arts, Agricultural Sciences, Education, Engineering, Law, Management Science, Science, The Social Science and the College of Medicine, apart from the School of Postgraduate Studies, Directorate of Continuing Education, Directorate of Part Time Programme, Directorate of Sandwich Education Degree Programme, Affiliate Colleges, Institute of Education, Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, Directorate of Pre-Degree Programmes, General Studies Unit, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies and the Centre for Research and Development, among others.
2.0 Change of Name of the University in 1985
In 1984, the ownership of the University came under the military administration of Ondo State since the governance of the country came under the military junta. In 1985, the Government as proprietor of the University cancelled the multi-campus and non-residential policy of the University and also changed the name of the University from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti to Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti. (The change of the University’s name did not affect the site/location of the campus at Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Reference can be made in records of National Universities Commission (Nigeria), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and other public records on these facts).
3.0 Political Changes in Nigeria and Creation of More States - Creation of Ekiti State out of Old Ondo State and its impact on the University ownership/name
In 1996, the Federal Military Government of Nigeria created 6 additional new States to the existing 30 States of the Nigerian Federation. Ekiti State of Nigeria was one of the 6 new States and it was carved out of the Ondo State which was created earlier in 1976 out of defunct Western State of Nigeria. Due to the State creation, economic assets, institutions and establishments previously owned by the Ondo State were shared with the newly created Ekiti State. Hence, the ownership and proprietorship of the Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti came under joint administration of the Governments of Ekiti State and the Ondo State respectively.
In 1998, due to a collapse of agreements on asset sharing and running of the Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti between the Governments of Ondo and Ekiti States, the Government of Ondo State created a new University named Ondo State University at Akungba Akoko, in Ondo State (The Ondo State University, Akungba Akoko was later renamed Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko while Ondo State Government also created Ondo State University of Science and Technology at Okitipupa in 2003).
In view of the policy decisions taken by Ondo State Government, the Government of Ekiti State took over the ownership, full administrative control and funding of the Ondo State University at Ado-Ekiti and enacted a law to rename the University as University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. The Ekiti State Government also took steps to ensure that all records and properties of the University remain intact. By law, Ekiti State Government transferred all assets, liabilities and records of Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti to University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria and the National Universities Commission (Nigeria) was informed of the change and it was approved accordingly.
4.0 Political Developments in Ekiti State (2007–2011) and its impact on Educational Policy Change and Merging of State Universities
In year 2007, a new civilian Government took over the helm of affairs in Ekiti State. The Government established 2 new state owned Universities, in addition to the existing University of Ado-Ekiti. The names of the two Universities were The University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti and The University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti. These two Universities were concurrently funded with public treasury along with the existing University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria and it had a great toll on the public purse and polarization of the educational system.
In year 2010, there was a change of Government in Ekiti State and the new Government convened a State-wide Education Summit in 2011 to consider the best ways to sustain tertiary education and to fund public institutions owned by the Government of Ekiti State. Part of the decisions taken at the Summit was to merge the three State owned Universities as a single public institution. The Ekiti State Government by law merged The University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria; The University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti and the University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti as a new University and renamed it as: EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Subsequently, the National Universities Commission, Abuja (Nigeria) licensed the University and all the assets and records of the three Universities were consolidated, integrated and merged as one institution.
In the last 29 years, some philanthropists have made significant contributions to the physical development of the University such as Dr. Lawrence Omolayo who donated the administrative block consisting of 271 offices, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), constructed and fully furnished a 350 seater Law Auditorium, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha built a 400 seater Lecture Theatre while Ado-Ekiti Community built the administrative block for the Faculty of Law. The Education Trust Fund (ETF) constructed 1,200–seater, 750–seater Lecture Theatres, new Library Complex, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences office complex, new Faculties of Social Sciences, Arts and Education offices. Shell Petroleum recently established an Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT) in the University apart from the donations of NUC virtual library and Access Education who also donated computers and server to the University.
A large number of the programmes of the University now enjoy full accreditation while some enjoy interim accreditation. The University has joined the ICT age as almost all its academic activities are linked to one on-line facility or the other. The University is undergoing Institutional Accreditation exercise as a selected institution in South West Nigeria. The Council of the University also recently set-up an endowment fund for indigent but brilliant students with an initial contribution of N1million pointing out that the problem of indigency has become real in the University because of the poor economic situation and the rising cost of University education.
The University has limited number of residential and sports facilities for staff and students within and outside the main Campus.

In 1985, Grace Alele-Williams became Nigeria's first female vice-chancellor when she was appointed to head the University of Benin. She served as its vice-chancellor until 1991.
The university of Benin was founded in 1970. It started as an Institute of Technology it also was accorded the status of a full-fledged University by National Universities Commission (NUC) on 1 July 1971. In his Budget Speech in April, 1972, the then Military Governor of Mid-Western State, Col. S.O. Ogbemudia (then also visitor to the university) formally announced the change of the name of the Institute of Technology to the University of Benin.
At the onset, the university was situated at Ekewan Road. In 1972, a project to build a main campus at Ugbowo and Ekosodin commenced with engineer Daniel Uhimwen as the director. Today, the main site is at Ugbowo, but some courses are still offered at the Ekewan campus.
On 1 April 1975, the University, at the request of the State Government, was taken over by the Federal Government and became a Federal University. Today, the University has continued to grow from strength to strength with a number of Faculties, Departments, Institutes and Units.
The university offers courses at postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma and certificate levels. Student enrollment stands at over 50,000, full-time and part-time students shared among the faculties.
With the high increase in student population, the library has embarked on an expansion programme with the establishment of faculty libraries; the Ekehuan Road Campus Library, Medical Library, Law, Engineering and Pharmacy Library are functional. A John Harris Library extension is awaiting commissioning. The library participates in interlibrary co-operation among Nigerian academic libraries.

History
The origins of the University are in Yaba College, founded in 1932 in Yaba, Lagos as the first tertiary educational institute in Nigeria. Yaba College was transferred to Ibadan, becoming the University College of Ibadan, in 1948.[3] The University was founded on its own site on 17 November 1948. The site of the University was leased to the colonial authorities by Ibadan native chiefs for 999 years.[4] The first students began courses in January of that year. Arthur Creech Jones, then Secretary of State for the Colonies, inaugurated the new educational institution. The University was originally instituted as an independent external college of the University of London, then it was called the University College, Ibadan. Some of the original buildings were designed by the English modernist architects Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew.[4] A 500-bed teaching hospital was added in 1957. The University of Ibadan became an independent university in 1962.In late 1963, on the University playing fields, with the celebration marked by talking drums, the Rt. Hon. Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, first Prime Minister of independent Nigeria, became the first Chancellor of its independent University.
