Reps: Terrorists attacking sources of livelihood

Members of the House of Representatives on Thursday condemned Wednesday’s bomb attack on a popular business mall, EMAB Plaza, in the heart of Abuja.

Moving a motion on the attack on EMAB Plaza, Mr. Chris Azubuogu, from Anambra State, observed that terrorists were now changing their tactics by targeting the source of living of struggling Nigerian youths.

He noted that apart from being a major hub for commercial activities, the plaza provided jobs for many youths.

At least 21 people lost their lives in the attack, while 17 others were injured.

The House also condemned a similar attack, which occurred in a market in Mubi, Adamawa State, on the same day.

It also drew the attention of security agencies to the incessant killings in parts of Kaduna State, asking them to bring the situation under control.

Members resolved to observe a minute’s silence in honour of the victims and to raise a delegation to visit their families.

In two other separate resolutions, the House urged the Federal Government to immortalise the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and the former Minister of Information and Communication, the late Prof. Dora Akunyili.

For Akunyili, who also served as a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, the House called on the government to name the NAFDAC headquarters building in Abuja after her.

It added that a befitting national edifice should be named after Bayero.
