CUPAF chairman tasks parents on education development
The Chairman, Crescent University Parents’ Forum and Special Adviser on Education to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Fatai Olukoga, has called on parents to contribute their quota to the development of education and its institutions.
Speaking at the 7th Annual General Meeting of the Forum, where his tenure as the chairman was unanimously extended owing to what the university management and the forum described as his meritorious service to the institution, Olukoga called on parents to take advantage of opportunities they have to contribute to education.
Pledging to take the forum and the school to greater heights, Olukoga said, “Effective communication is essential for building school-family partnerships and it constitutes the foundation for all other forms of family involvement in education, because positive parent-school communications and development benefit parents on the long run.”
While calling on parents to be involved in their children’s education, he said, “The most accurate predictor of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status but the extent to which that student’s family is able to create a home environment that encourages learning.
“And because if parents’ contributory activities are effectively planned and well implemented, it could result in substantial benefits for the children, parents, educators, and the school, thus my efforts in the forum.” A statement signed by Adunola Oladapo on behalf of the forum said Olukoga, who is an aspirant to the House of Representatives in the 2015 election, had performed beyond the imagination of the school management and the forum by taking the institution to an enviable height of greatness during his two terms as the chairman.

C.Ronaldo scores Hat-trick, breaks record with his 23rd treble
Cristiano Ronaldo set two personal milestones as he led Real Madrid to a record-equalling 18th-straight win on a historic night at the Bernabeu.
The Portugal forward has now scored more hat-tricks than any other La Liga player after completing his 23rd treble with his 200th Spanish top-flight goal.
He put Madrid ahead by drilling in a disputed penalty, after he had been fouled under seemingly minimal contact.
And his clinical volley and guided finish moved Real four points clear.
Ronaldo, who is the favourite to win the 2014 Ballon d'Or for his performances this year, was given a standing ovation as he was substituted towards the end of another memorable performance.
The 29-year-old had scored the same amount of hat-tricks as legendary Madrid forward Alfredo Di Stefano and Telmo Zarra of Athletic Bilbao, and eclipsed their tallies when he steered in Marcelo's cross.
And it also meant he reached his second century of La Liga goals in his 178th match for Real.

Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for non-European International Students Worldwide
Each year, the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers a number of highly talented prospective students, from non-EU/EEA countries, the opportunity to pursue a degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University.
The funds for the scholarships come from the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund, established by Utrecht University and from contributions by Utrecht University alumni.
Approximately 55 scholarships are awarded each year.
Selected students receive a scholarship for the duration of the degree programme, which is a maximum of two years for a Master's degree and three years for a Bachelor’s degree.
The scholarship will only be renewed for the second (and third) year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.
Selected students are awarded a scholarship that covers the tuition fee and € 10 000 living expenses per year. However, students should be aware that the grant is not necessarily a full scholarship, and that it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance study and stay completely.
As one of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands, students from abroad must prove to the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Office) that they have sufficient financial means.

Be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa;
Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means the student is not eligible for this scholarship.
Selection criteria:
Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:
Their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
The academic quality and results of the preceding education, as evidenced, for example, by grades, test scores, publications, letters of recommendation;
The quality and relevance of the motivation letter (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
The quality and feasibility of the financial plan in the application;
The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).
HOW TO APPLY
