Dikko buried in Zaria

The remains of Second Republic Minister of Transport, Alhaji Umaru Dikko, were laid to rest in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Tuesday.

Dikko, who was drugged and put in a crate by the Buhari/Idiagbo administration in 1984 in an attempt to smuggle him to Nigeria to answer alleged corruption charges, died penultimate Tuesday in his London residence at 78.

After much delay in London, Dikko’s body finally arrived  Kaduna on Tuesday and laid in state at his Coronation residence in Kaduna at about 11am.

The corpse was taken away from Kaduna at about 12.30pm for onward journey to Zaria, Dikko’s country home.

At the Emir of Zazzau’s Palace, prayers were offered for the repose of his soul.

By 2.20pm after the prayers, Dikko’s remains were interred at the Zaria City cemetery along old Jos.

Shortly after the burial of the former minister, the heaven opened up for a heavy rain.
