FG has provided 2,734 latrines

The Presidency on Tuesday said that it had provided 12,342 water projects across the 774 local government areas in the country.

According to the government, these include 2,734 ventilated and improved VIP latrines, in line with its determination to meet the Millennium Development Goals in 2015.

The government also said it provided Conditional Cash Transfer to over 103,067 households and 1,074 agricultural cooperatives with micro-credit grants.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on MDGs, Dr. Precious Gbeneol, stated these in Abuja during the opening ceremony of a workshop for the 2014 Conditional Grant Scheme to local governments areas.

The Office of the SSAP-MDGs is attached to the Presidency.

The workshop, Gbeneol stressed, aims at strengthening capacity of stakeholders at all levels as Nigeria approaches the deadline for the attainment of the MDGs in 2015.

According to her, the CGS channels Debt Relief Gains to states and local governments in a bid to address Nigeria’s most pressing developmental needs.

Gbeneol said, “At an occasion like this, it is important to give feedback to our stakeholders, especially our international development partners, on some of our modest achievements through the CGS. As of today, 12, 342 water projects have been provided across the LGAs of this country, including 2,734 ventilated and improved VIP latrines in the water and sanitation sector.

“In the health sector, we have successfully constructed, renovated and equipped 5,206 health facilities. We have engaged and trained about 4,710 village health workers, procured and distributed 520 referral vehicles (ambulances); constructed and renovated 356 quarters for health workers, with over 68,430 trained.”
