NLC group seek quick freedom for Chibok girls

The Vice-President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Isa Aremu, and somephysically challenged people, under the aegis of the Excellence Initiatives for Poverty Alleviation, have urged the Federal Government to ensure the speedy and safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.

The over 200 girls were abducted at the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14 by members of the Boko Haram insurgents.

The Council of State had on Tuesday, after its second meeting in the year, promised that the abducted girls would soon be rescued.

Aremu, who is also the Vice Chairman, National Conference Committee on Labour, Civil Societies, Sports and Youths, in a text message to our correspondent on Wednesday, said all efforts and strategies should be deployed to ensure that the girls were rescued.

He said the continued captivity of the girls diminished the nation’s image.

“Every minute these girls spend in captivity diminishes all of us! It is reassuring that the security forces are making progress in apprehending some of the insurgents, including their informants.

“However, the reassuring news Nigerians are waiting for is the rescue of the over 200 innocent girls. It is not over yet until these girls are rescued and returned back to their parents and schools,’ he said.

Also, scores of Christians and Muslim faithful as well as members of the physically challenged group had gathered on Wednesday to pray for the rescue of the Chibok girls and for the security of lives and property in the country.
