PSI-FELLOW/COFUND International Fellowship Programme for Postdocal Scientists

The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) opens a new “bottom-up driven” post-doctoral program, PSIFELLOW, to enable individual experienced researchers (Postdocs) from all over the world to pursue their research career at one of its internationally recognized research departments.

The PSI in funding collaboration with the European Commission (EC) and FP7-People Marie Curie Actions invites applications for the 2014 International Fellowship Programme at Paul Scherrer Institut.

This is an opportunity for international scientists to perform their innovative scientific project.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The below explained eligibility criteria must be fulfilled in order to apply to the PSI-FELLOW PROGRAM:

a) Transnational mobility schemes

Incoming mobility for non-Swiss-resident applicants from Member States, associated or third countries as defined by the EC in the People work programme (applicant must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the application deadline. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account),

    OR

Re-integration of Member State or Associated country nationals having carried out research in a third country for at least 3 years and in the last 12 months prior to the application deadline.

b) Educational background

Doctorate holder (not later awarded than two months after the application deadline)
   
Publication record (at least one original accepted first author publication in press orpublished in a peer-reviewed journal)

HOW TO APPLY

The application has to be made together with a senior scientist at PSI, who will act as the fellow’s mentor. On the PSI-FELLOW website, candidates will find a list with all the potential mentors indicating their fields of expertise and their research interest.

Project proposals together with CV and two reference letters has to be submitted on the PSI-Job-Portal.

PLEASE NOTE:
This fellowship application has to be made together with a senior scientist at PSI, who will act as the fellow’s mentor. The fellowship is funded by Paul Scherrer Institut, European Commission, and FP7-People Marie Curie Actions.

The program will contribute to sustainable scientific excellence of the ERA by enabling a new generation of highly qualified researchers to efficiently disseminate scientific knowledge. There has been a first call in 2012. The second call is in 2014 (June 1 with deadline August 4, 2014).

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary research institute belonging to the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology Domain covering also the ETH Zurich and the EPFL. It was established in 1988 by merging in 1960 established EIR (Eidgenössisches Institut für Reaktorforschung, Federal Institute for Reactor Research) and in 1968 established SIN (Schweizerisches Institut für Nuklearphysik, Swiss Institute for Nuclear Physics). Currently, it is based in Villigen and Würenlingen.

The PSI is a multi-disciplinary research centre for natural sciences and technology. In national and international collaboration with universities, other research institutes and industry, PSI is active in solid state physics, materials sciences, elementary particle physics, life sciences, nuclear and non-nuclear energy research, and energy-related ecology.

It is the largest Swiss national research institute with about 1,400 (year 2011) members of staff, and is the only one of its kind in Switzerland.
