Most Challenging Courses to Study in Nigeria
No course studied in the higher institution seems easy, but some are brutal and can snuff life outta you. However, don't get afraid of them. They're actually interesting. So grab a packet of popcorn as I take you through them.
1. Engineering: the name of this course speaks for itself already. The dudes that study this course eh.....*winks*. It undeniably houses all heavy weight courses in engine faculty like chemical engineering, mechanical, production, petroleum...etc..any guy you see rushing to lecture hall with a punching calculator, they're engine boys o.
2.Medicine: What makes this course challenging, is because you'll be forced to read(jack) like your life depends on the degree of knowledge you obtain from their heavy an bulky textbooks. Some of them actually do go for thanksgiving, when they pass their MBBS exam, that contains Anatomy, physiology and biochem.
3.Biochemistry: people usually think that it's a combination of biology and chemistry. If you're one of such, abeg, it's a wrong impression. You will actually get familiar with Bio molecules and giant Organic structures, that will choke you up. This course requires much logic.
What makes it challenging,is that you'll have to learn a lot within a short duration. Metabolic pathways might seem frustrating atimes...*winks*. Another thing about this course is that their lecturers are always sadists, due to long years of studying brutal carbohydrate and enzyme structures.
4.Chemistry: I call this course the power, because these dudes can mix chemical concoctions of Ammonia and HCL and blow everywhere...chem guys, I dey joke o....Its actually one of the most difficult in physical science, because you'll make friends with differential equation in physical chemistry, which will leave you wondering if you're studying maths or chemical reactions.
5.Pharmacy: Its already obvious.don't know where to begin with this course. It overlaps critical aspect of chemistry. You hear stuffs like pharmacokinetics, drug metabolisms etc.
6.Architecture: the funny thing about this course is that it sounds cool and friendly, but when you get in,you know that not all that glitters are gold. You'll get familiar with geometric drawings, optics and so on, which atimes is usually a pain to the ass.
That's my submission. Any other, you can use the comment box. Thanks.

Rita Uzoamaka Aladi a 20-year-old graduate of Caleb University has emerged the overall best graduating student at the fourth convocation ceremony of the institution held recently.

“Apart from the financial aspect which is the major challenge, another challenge I had was staying up there, because my Dean do tell me, your CGPA is good, but you have to maintain it, it is not easy maintaining a good grade, but you must work harder if you want to maintain it and to the glory of God that I did,” she added.
She pointed her parents unwavering support as one of her greatest motivations.

BREAKING NEWS: Bomb blast rocks bus station in Bauchi
A large explosion has rocked a bus station in a northern region of Nigeria previously targeted by Boko Haram, witnesses said, in what appeared to be the latest crack in the government’s purported ceasefire with the armed group.
“We had a huge blast at exactly 9:45pm (20:45 GMT)… We realised it had come from the bus station,” said Musa Babale, a resident of the town of Azare in Bauchi state where the blast occurred on Wednesday.
“The whole place was a mess,” he added, in an account supported by several others.
Last Saturday, Nigeria claimed to have reached a deal with the armed rebel group, but continued violence following the agreements raised doubts about the purported breakthrough.

HOT Female Gym Teacher Caught With Young Student INSIDE CATHOLIC SCHOOL
When Megan Mahoney offered to coach one of her young, male students in basketball, she apparently had more than athletics in mind.
The 24-year-old Catholic school teacher from Staten Island has been charged with 30 counts of statutory rape and four of criminal sexual acts for her relationship with a 16-year-old student, which happened between October 2013 and January 2014.

Gov Fayose shuts down fuel stations in Ekiti
Barely a week after assuming office as governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose yesterday October 22nd shut down a fuel station belonging to the Ekiti state House of Assembly speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, and a few others saying that the fuel stations posed environmental hazard to where they were located.
Reacting to the closure of his filling station, the Speaker said the governor was only out to victimize him for not defecting from his political party, APC to the PDP which Fayose belongs to. Continue..
"Hon. Joseph Olugbemi had told me two days after the governor’s inauguration that he (the governor) had made up his mind to close my filling station over refusal to join PDP. Olugbemi defected to PDP on the day Governor Fayose was inaugurated. I had earlier told the governor that in the interest of Ekiti people, the House of Assembly would work with him to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of Ekiti State.
"I called the governor to confirm what the honorable member told me about the plan to close my filling station. He denied having such plans, swearing that he would not engage in victimization of his opponents. But only yesterday the governor ordered the closure of the filling station, citing environmental reasons,” the Speaker explained.
But in a swift reaction, the Chief Press Secretary of Governor Fayose, Idowu Adelusi, dismissed the speakers claims, saying that the reason for closing the fuel stations was environmentally related

N4,000 for the online registration for NYSC endorsed
THE House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development has endorsed the N4,000 for the online registration of members of the National Youth Service Corps ,NYSC.
Chairman of the committee, Rep Kamil Akinlabi revealed this while giving update on the investigation into the new policy, during a media chat with House of Representatives Press Corps.
Akinlabi said that the fund would be used for installation of equipment at the NYSC offices nationwide adding that the fund would enable the contractor handling the project to recoup investment within five years.
The House after the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hassan Saleh, directed NYSC management to suspend forthwith the policy requiring prospective Corp members to pay the sum of N4,000 with effect from 2015 to access their call up letters.
Akinlabi said: "from the onset, when the matter was brought to our attention, the first thing we felt was the way you are feeling but after constructive engagement, we discovered that it was an innovation that we can't run from.
"First, it was not the responsibility of the NYSC to mobilize respective Corp member to get their call-up letter, it is the responsibility of the parent. If somebody schooled in Lagos but lives in Kano and to get his call-up letter he has to travel to school.
He explained further that "so you will discover that it's time consuming, risky and very expensive. So what the NYSC has done is to partner with a consultant that is already handling similar project for JAMB and WAEC that has eliminated similar risk to partner with them through PPP arrangement.

Clarendon Fund Scholarships for International Students Worldwide
As at 1st September 2011, all postgraduate applicants for entry into Oxford University will be eligible for the prestigious Clarendon scholarship funding which has, up until now, only been open to international candidates with overseas fee status.
The Clarendon Fund is the University of Oxford’s flagship scholarship scheme. The awards are sponsored by Oxford University Press and are only available at the University of Oxford for all full-time and part-time graduate degrees. Donations are from partners within and outside the University. From 1st September 2011, all postgraduate applicants for entry into Oxford University will be eligible for the prestigious Clarendon scholarship funding which has, up until now, only been open to international candidates with overseas fee status.
Award is offered for the full period that you are liable to pay tuition fees to the University, which is usually the same as the length of your course. It is important to note that the Scholarships are subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.
All Clarendon Scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full and a generous grant for living expenses.
Scholars on a full-time course receive a tax-free annual grant that is normally sufficient to cover the living expenses of a single student living in Oxford. The grant for living expenses in 2013-14 is GBP£13,726.
Scholars on a part-time course receive a pro-rata amount of the full-time grant for living expenses. Part-time Master’s scholars are offered 1/3 of the full-time grant per year for two years. Part-time DPhil scholars are offered 1/6 of the full-time grant per year for six years.
CRITERIA
Candidates applying to start a new graduate course at Oxford are eligible. This includes students who are currently studying for a Master’s degree at Oxford but who will be re-applying for a DPhil (you would be eligible for funding for the DPhil).
Scholarships are tenable in all subject areas and open to candidates who will be starting a new course.
An excellent academic record is essential: A high first class honours degree or its equivalent (a GPA score of at least 3.7 if the mark is out of 4, noting that most successful candidates achieve a score higher than 3.7) or an outstanding academic record at Master’s level is necessary (noting that an outstanding Master’s degree can compensate for a moderate first degree performance). Other indicators of high academic achievement may include individual marks on student transcripts; evidence of previous university prizes or awards; information on your overall position within your cohort; and publications (if applicable).
The scholarship is open to all graduate (masters, MBA and doctoral degree) applicants, regardless of nationality, accepted to start a graduate course at the University of Oxford.
HOW TO APPLY
You are automatically considered for a Clarendon Scholarship when you apply for graduate study at Oxford University. You do not need to submit any specific additional documents for the Clarendon Scholarships and there is no separate scholarship application form.
More information on graduate course applications, including the timing of admission offers and college offers, can be found at www.ox.ac.uk/graduate.
The information that you provide with your Application Form for Graduate Study at Oxford will be used to assess your suitability for the Clarendon funding application. Sagamu residents cry out over bad roads
The people of Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government area of Ogun State have called on both the federal and state governments to fix the internal and federal roads in the town which are now in deplorable state.
They made this call on Friday under the aegis of Sagamu Development Association, as the group prepares to host this year’s Sagamu Day.
Speaking for the people, the president of SDA, Otunba Olumuyiwa Sonuga, said almost all the internal roads in the town were in a deplorable state, causing untold hardship to residents and motorists.
He also said Oba Awolesi Road, which is the federal road linking Mosinmi to Sagamu-Ore Expressway, had failed in many sections, making it almost impassable.
He said, “All the internal roads in Sagamu are in a sorry state, and movement around the town by motorists is with a lot of pain and stress. The roads are not only filled with potholes but craters.
“The only internal road that is good is the one constructed about 30 years ago. And that road is Ewusi Road. That road endured because it was well constructed.
“The federal road which passes through the town is the Oba Awolesi Road, which leads to Ikorodu, Lagos State and links Sagamu- Ore Expressway, is also in a sorry state. All that we do from time to time is to carry out palliative repairs by getting rubbles to fill failed portions, but each time it rains, the rubbles are washed away.
“That is why we are calling on both the federal and state governments to help us fix all these roads, given the strategic location of Sagamu.”
Sonuga, who said the SDA would be celebrating the 30th edition of Sagamu Day later this month, also urged the Federal Government to construct a flyover on the entry and exit point into Sagamu on the Sagamu-Ore Expressway to curtail accidents and deaths, which occurred almost on a daily basis there.
Sonuga, who was flanked by the Chairman, Planning Committee, Sagamu Day celebration, Otunba Bamgbola Adesanya, said the town had promoted ethnic harmony as all ethnic groups lived in peace.
He said, “Sagamu has continued to experience peace because the indigenes are accommodating. We have all ethnic groups here -the Hausa, Ibo, Ijaw, Bini among others. And we all live in peace.”
Sonuga, who said the SDA was committed to the development of the town, explained that prominent Nigerians would grace the Sagamu Day celebration including the president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Govenor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Sonariwo, president Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote among others.

Severed head of slain youth Recovered by Police
The police have recovered the severed head of a 28-year-old man, Ibikunle Tunde, who was killed during the cult clash in Mushin and Fadeyi areas of Lagos State last week.
The head was recovered on Ojelade Street, Fadeyi, on Thursday by security operatives from the Alakara Police Station.
The deceased, who had been linked to a murder last Monday, was killed in an apparent reprisal.
A resident said, “In the morning of Monday last week, a lottery agent, Sheriff Alasia, was killed. Tunde, who is believed to have been among the killers, was attacked on the night of that very day. He was shot several times while his head was chopped off.
“His body was recovered by the police but his head remained missing for almost four days. The killers were playing with the head in the neighbourhood and we reported to the police. On Thursday night, policemen came to Ojelade Street to recover the head.”
PUNCH Metro had reported that at least three people were killed during a clash involving two rival cult groups in the area.
The groups, Toba’s boys and Toheeb’s gang, have been embroiled in a long time supremacy fight which has left scores dead from both sides in the recent past.
Our correspondent reported that trouble started last week when some hoodlums belonging to the Toba group went on the rampage over the detention of their leader, Oloruntoba Joel.
They were said to have torn posters belonging to the All Progressives Congress because the party did not intervene in what they felt was a persecution of their leader.
Hoodlums belonging to Toheeb’s group were said to have led some policemen to the stronghold of Toba’s gang to make arrests for the rampage.
In the process, gunshots were reportedly fired at some of the hoodlums, which made them reinforce to repel the attack.
In the ensuing attacks and gun battle which lasted for about four days, three people lost their lives.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that Tunde’s head had been recovered.
“I can confirm to you that our men have recovered the head,” he said.
A source told our correspondent that the severed head had been sewed to the rest of the body.
Meanwhile, policemen attached to Okokomaiko Division have arrested two armed robbers that were operating at Doyin U-turn Okokomaiko.
The police spokesperson, in a statement, said, “Items recovered from the hoodlums are one axe, one locally-made double-barrelled pistol, some wraps of weed and motorcycle with number plate, KRD 863 QC. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang. The case is under investigation at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Yaba.”

Mother cries out over missing six-year-old
Six-year-old Jeremiah Abasi was living with his parents in Ihiala area of Anambra State when his aunt, Onyebuchi Chibogu, decided to bring him to Lagos State to continue his education.
However, in less than four months on Adidas Street, Olodi-Apapa area of the state, Jeremiah went missing after reportedly running an errand for his aunt’s neighbour.
His mother, Chika Abasi, told PUNCH Metro that findings by the family revealed he was kidnapped.
She said she was in the village when she got a phone call that Jeremiah was missing.
She said, “I was in shock. I called my husband at Onitsha, and he asked me to travel down to Lagos to know what exactly happened.
“It was when I arrived Lagos that I learnt that the man who kidnapped my son was a stranger in their compound; he had taken a snapshot of my son two weeks earlier with his phone, while the boy was half naked.
“I just want them to tell me what has happened to him. It is better for me to know my son is dead than the pain they are making me go through.”
Jeremiah’s brother, Miracle, who was holidaying in Lagos, said the victim was with a neighbour, identified only as Ijeoma, and her boyfriend, Ogbonna.
Miracle, 15, explained that he had also been sent to buy a stick of cigarette for Ogbonna, but when he returned, he could not find Ogbonna and his brother.
He said, “On August 22, around 6pm, I came back from the field where I went to play football.
“I met my brother at home and I called him to the backyard for us to go and take a bath, but he refused, saying he wanted our aunt to come back before he would do that.
“When I finished, I saw Mr. Ogbonna taking a picture of my brother with his phone. I asked him to also take my picture, but he showed me a photo of my brother he had taken two weeks earlier.
“He gave me N20 to buy a cigarette for him, but when I came back, I didn’t see my brother again or the man.”
Miracle said he noticed that the door was shut and he threw the cigarette away.
Around 11pm, the news had spread that Jeremiah could not be found.
A crowd of people were said to have begun blaming the 15-year-old for leaving his younger brother at home.
“I tried to explain to the crowd that my brother was with Ogbonna and his girlfriend, but Ogbonna, who suddenly returned with his girlfriend, shouted me down and threatened to beat me” Miracle added.
Chibogu, told our correspondent the matter was reported at the Tolu Police Station and the two suspects were arrested.
A police source confirmed to our correspondent that a picture of the missing boy was indeed seen in the phone of one of the suspects, but said it was not enough to conclude that he kidnapped the boy.

SHOCKING !!! Woman buries stepdaughter in soakaway
The police in Lagos have arrested a woman, Aminat Akanni, for allegedly abducting two of her stepchildren and murdering one of them because she claimed her husband refused to provide Sallah clothes for her own son.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect killed one of the kids, Nofisat, by pushing her into a soakaway.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Aminat was arrested by the police at CMS Bus Stop, Lagos Island, on October 9.
Our correspondent learnt that prior to the arrest, seven-year-old Lateef and four-year-old Nofisat had been declared missing on Friday, October 3- a day to the Sallah celebration.
It was learnt that the father of the missing children, Moshood Mubo, who is also the suspect’s husband, had raised the alarm and reported the case to the Adeniji Adele Police Division on Friday, October 3.
However, after the suspect’s arrest, she confessed to have abducted the two kids from Church Street, Lagos Island where they lived.
She further confessed to have also killed the younger, child, Nofisat, by pushing her into soakaway beside a mosque in the Orile area.
Our correspondent gathered that Lateef and Nofisat were pupils in Primary 1 and Nursery 2 classes respectively in a private school.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Sunday, Moshood who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, said his second wife, who he rented an apartment for in the Orile area, abducted the kids claiming that she wanted to “punish him for not buying Sallah clothes for her own son.”
He said, “I married Aminat in 2010. In order to avoid a crisis at home, I rented an apartment for her at Mosalashi Street, Alakara in Orile. She has only one son for me. His name is Yusuf. She does not come to Church Street, Lagos Island where I live with my first wife.
“What happened was that on the evening of Friday, October 3, when I returned from work- just a day to the Sallah celebrations- I sent the two children to go buy biscuits in front of the street. That was around 7pm. We expected them till around 9pm. I was shocked. I quickly rushed to the Adeniji Adele Police Division, and reported the incident.
“Believe me, I and their mother, Funmilayo, could not sleep all through that night. We were walking around throughout the night from one police division to the other, repeating the same thing. The whole Sallah celebration was a sad one as I looked for my two children. Little did I know that it was my second wife who sneaked into our area to abduct them.”
Moshood, who spoke to our correspondent while fighting back tears, added that Aminat had called him the following day, and made a suspicious comment.
He said, “The following morning, around 11am, Aminat called me and heard me crying on the phone. I told her that we were looking for Lateef and Nofisat, she simply said, ‘All I know is that no one can kidnap my own son.’ I was shocked at her statement, but I never thought she was the one behind the whole trouble.
“It was six days later when the police arrested her that she then confessed that she committed the act because she claimed I was not taking care of her, and I had not bought sallah clothes for her son, which is not true. She had sneaked to our area, and asked the two kids to follow her to Orile. This is unimaginable for me.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that as the search for the two children continued, which took Mubo and his first wife to travel to Ilorin, Kwara State to consult their relatives and get ‘spiritual help’, a friend had called them on Thursday, October 9, that she saw Lateef with Akanni around the CMS Bus Stop, Lagos Island. The police were then invited who trailed her movement and arrested her.
The mother of the two children, Funmilayo, told PUNCH Metro that Aminat had bottled up grievances against her for a long time.
She said, “Aminat killed my daughter. She made us to have a sorrowful Sallah. We were running around police stations. She said she wanted to punish me and my husband because she was having issues with us. So, why did she not come after us, why after my two children?”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that Aminat was now in police custody.
He said, “Aminat Akanni is the second wife of the complainant. Investigation revealed that the corpse of Nofisat was recovered by the Orile Division in a sudden and unnatural death.
“The suspect confessed to have drowned the child and dropped the corpse at Orile. The case has now been transferred to the Orile Division for further synchronisation and action.”

I was not sacked –Keshi
The former coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi has said that he was not sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Breaking his silence in Ilorin on Saturday over his sacking by the NFF, he argued that his contract with the NFF ended with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, saying it would be inappropriate for anybody to say he was sacked.
He spoke at the Kwara State stadium during the final of the 28th edition of the All Financial Institutions Football competition.
The NFF announced Keshi’s sacking on Thursday with Shaibu Amodu as his replacement.
Keshi also said that the Eagles can still qualify for the African Cup of Nations, adding that the team only needed to work hard. He urged Nigerians to encourage the team.
“I was never sacked by the NFF. It’s if you have an existing contract that you would be sacked. Super Eagles can still qualify for the 2015 AFCON. They have the chance, because the group is still open. They only need to work harder.
“We need a lot of encouragement from Nigerians for the players to go ahead and qualify. I think we can qualify for the 2015 AFCON,” he said.
Nigeria is currently in the third position of Group A with four points, trailing Congo with seven points and South Africa leading the group with eight points while Sudan is the last in the group having three points.
Nigeria will play away with Congo on November 14, and at home with South Africa on November 19.
Meanwhile, First Bank of Nigeria, Lagos team defeated the Central Bank of Nigeria 1-0 to win the 28th edition of the All Financial Institutions Football competition organized by the NFF and CBN. The only goal was scored in the 56th minute by Gafar Lasisi.
The First Bank has won the competition for the eighth time, since 1979 when it was introduced. The team received the N2m star prize and a giant trophy.
Before the final match, the Security Exchange Commission had defeated Ikeja Micro Finance Bank 3-1 on penalties, after a goalless draw at the regulation time.
Twenty-four financial institutions competed in the 2014 edition of the fiesta which began on September 12, in four centres.

Rivers PDP chiefs trade words over zoning
The controversy surrounding the ‘no-zoning verdict’ of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State took a fresh turn on Monday when a chief of the party, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, and the State Chairman, Mr. Felix Obuah, engaged each other in a war of words.
While Sara-Igbe accused the state PDP chairman of running the party with impunity and recklessness, Obuah maintained that the PDP stalwart had no locus to criticise the position of the party on zoning.
Sara-Igbe, who claims he is one of the founders of the PDP, added that the party in the state had always rotated elective positions, including that of the governor.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday, Sara-Igbe, who was the Special Adviser on Security Matters to former governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, explained that the state chairman of the party lacked the knowledge of how the PDP began in the state.
He said, “Obuah is a small boy in PDP; he does not know how PDP came about. He was just brought in to contest council election and his experience ends there. Until the conspiracy that brought him into power is destroyed, he does not know how Rivers State is governed.
“Who is Obuah to say there was no zoning arrangement in Rivers PDP? Nigeria is owned by very few people, whether you like it or not. You can say anything, but there are very few persons that know how Nigeria is governed.
“When Nigeria was at the peak of collapse in 2012, these people came up and brought in the Doctrine of Necessity and approached the House of Assembly for the good of all.
“In Rivers State also, when the chips are down, we have people that will speak. When they speak, Rivers people will listen because they know what they are talking about. Obuah does not know that PDP’s constitution is sacrosanct. It (constitution) is not for one person, it is for the entire state, it is above everybody.”
Obuah, however, challenged Sara-Igbe to show proof of his membership of the PDP and tell the world when he (Sara-Igbe) last visited the state party secretariat or his ward secretariat.
The state PDP chairman, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Jerry Needam, explained that the PDP chief was only looking for cheap popularity.
He said, “Sara-Igbe is frustrated. He is not a member of PDP and he lacks the locus to talk about the Rivers PDP chairman, Bro Felix Obuah. Who is Sara-Igbe? Has he won a unit election in his village?
