Obanikoro hails gallant Dolphins

Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, hailed Dolphins basketball club as a good side despite losing 65-51 to six-time champions First Bank in the final of the Zenith Bank women’s basketball league in Lagos on Saturday.

Obanikoro, who represented the President, Goodluck Jonathan, at the final, said Dolphins chairman, Wale Aboderin, has played a major role in the development of women’s basketball in the country.

“Dolphins played well, but there must be a winner in the final of every competition. If you come short of what to do, it’s a challenge to do more,” he said.

“There is no better way to demonstrate the President interest in the game and (Wale) Aboderin interest as well than to be here to present the trophy on the final day.”

Obanikoro, a close follower of Nigerian and global basketball, said Nigerian women basketball had the potential to be better than the WNBA.
