Ogun State Students Stage Protest, Demand Reduction in Fees

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State chapter comprising of all students in Ogun State higher institutions recently were in Oke Mosan office of Senator Ibikunle Amosun demanding a reduction on their school fees.

According to the leader of the group, the current fees are outrageous and unjustifiable.

“Presently, Ogun State tertiary institutions’ fees are outrageous, absurd and illogical. We cannot keep mute pretending all is well. Any Nigerian government that does not pursue free education at all levels is Nigerian students’ enemy number one.”

“It is highly sympathetic that those who benefited from Awo’s free education policy are inflicting pain on us today,” he said.

The secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa in response appealed to the students to keep calm that efforts are on to address their grievances.

The question I can’t help but ask is: Why is this current issues of hike in school fees peculiar to higher institutions in the south-west?
