Ore 30MW IPP ready soon – Mimiko

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has said that the 30 megawatts Independent Power Plant being constructed by the state government in Ore, in Odigbo Local Government Council of the state will soon be ready for inauguration.

He made this known on Monday during the opening of the first phase of the Ore Regional Market.

Mimiko said the power project would help to transform the economy of the state from largely agrarian to an industrial one.

According to him, 1,500 local artisans and traders were empowered during the construction of the market through the supply of goods and services, while youths in the area were also meaningfully engaged.

The inauguration of the market witnessed the disbursement of N20m to some market women by the wife of the governor, Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko, under the state’s micro credit agency’s loan scheme.

The governor noted that the market, which comprises 480 open stalls, 364 lock-up shops, three cold rooms, police post and public toilets, was constructed through direct labour to improve the fortunes of the local artisans.

He directed the state’s Direct Labour Agency to put in place sustainable maintenance mechanism for the facilities to prevent degeneration.

Mimiko appealed to the beneficiaries of the loan facilities to pay back on time so that other groups could benefit from the scheme.

He said, “Hitherto, the market here in Ore was characterised by decay, filthiness and dilapidation, but with the recent reconstruction that has taken place, the market now provides for the people the enabling environment for trading.”
