Unilorin, pride of Africa, says Ambassador

The Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, His Excellency, Lawrence Olufemi Obisakin, has described the University of Ilorin as the pride of Nigeria and indeed the pride of Africa.

Ambassador Obisakin stated this in his office penultimate Wednesday (June 18, 2014) when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, visited him at the Nigerian Embassy in Cotonou.

Welcoming Prof. Ambali to his office, the Ambassador noted that he is always proud of the university of Ilorin for being one of the leading Universities in Nigeria and Africa and also for being the only University in Nigeria that has enjoyed uninterrupted academic sessions for over a decade now.

Ambassador Obisakin commended the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor and his management team in their drive towards making the University of Ilorin a world class citadel of learning that will ensure that African children are offered the best education anybody can get anywhere in the world.

The envoy also commended the initiative of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), of which Prof. Ambali is the Vice Chairman, on its efforts towards ensuring greater collaboration among universities in the West African sub-region.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the Ambassador for the warm reception accorded him and members of his team.

Prof. Ambali expressed the gratitude of the Council, Senate and the entire University of Ilorin Community to the Nigerian embassy for its support for the University's Linguistic Immersion Programme.
