Ex-servicemen protest non-implementation of pension increment

Some military pensioners in Abuja on Wednesday protested what they alleged to be the refusal of the Federal Government to implement their increased pension under the Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure.
In a protest letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, the ex-Servicemen, under the aegis of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, described the failure of government to implement the salary structure as “unbecoming of a responsible democratic government”.
The coordinator of the group,  Capt. C.D Roberts, said, “The refusal of the Federal Government to implement our pension rights on the Consolidated Armed Forces  Salary Structure of 01 July 2010 as provided for by section 173 of the 1999 Constitution as amended is unbecoming of a responsible democratic government.
“The refusal of the Federal Government to officially make the circular for the CONFASS of 01 July 2010 available to us and the attendant imposition of 53 per cent instead of our due increment has resulted to a lot of rumours among us – a situation which is capable of worsening  the security situation in the country.”
