Acting Governor Ahamdu Fintiri of Adamawa State has cancelled the usual traditional homage as well as all the activities to do with the celebration of the Eid-El-Kabir Sallah aimed at commiserating with the victims of Boko Haram insurgency and instead sympathise with the thousands of Internally Displaced Persons in the state.
A press statement by his Spokesman, Solomon Kumanga, on Saturday made available to the press stated that the Acting Governor’s decision on the issue is to ensure that the celebration of Sallah be done with caution considering the prevailing security challenges bedevilling the state.
Fintiri while calling on Muslim faithfuls to embark on prayers to Allah to bring to an end the activities of the Boko Haram, said “It was unfortunate that the insurgence has continued despite the doggedness of the Nigerian military to bring it down.”
According to the statement, the Acting Governor used the medium to thank the people of the state for remaining uncowed by the activities of the insurgents who are hell-bent on disrupting the harmony and
peaceful co-existence prevailing among the Citizens.
It said, “The Governor’s cancellation of all Sallah activities at the Government House, is sequel to that of the Lamido Adamawa.”
Muhammadu Barkido Aliyu Mustapha who had earlier announced that there will be no durbar at the Palace while all District Heads were directed to remain in their domain and pray for Internal displaced persons of
insurgencies.
Meanwhile the acting governor has equally tasked the entire Muslim Ummah on the need to be God-fearing, peace loving and patriotic during this blessed period of Ed-el-kabir.
Fintiri in a Sallah message to felicitate with the Muslim Community said while seeking Allah’s bounties, every citizen should pray for God’s intervention to bring to an end the menace of insurgency.
The Acting Governor noted that it is not a mere coincidence that friday which is observed as Arafat day throughout the Muslim World, fell on the 9th day of the Holy month of Zul Hijja.
He therefore urged Muslims to extend a hand of friendship to not only to fellow Muslim but the adherents of other religions in order to promote the peaceful co-existence among them.
Meanwhile the insurgents have held on to three local government areas of the state bordering Borno state, thereby triggering thousands of refuges from the areas into Yola, the state capital.
