Former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, will on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 formally declare his presidential interest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of declaring today as earlier scheduled.
The declaration is expected to take place at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
In preparation for the presidential primaries which have been dubbed the battle of the titans on the grounds of others formidable contestants, Buhari has appointed former national chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh, as the director of his campaign organisation.
Others in the race with Buhari include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Adams Oshiomole (Edo), and founding chairman, LEADERSHIP Group, Sam Nda -Isaiah and a few others.
Although Buhari told his supporters last week in Abuja of his intention to run for the presidency for the fourth time, he did not disclose the date because of the party’s grand rally for governorship poll holding in Yola today.
The new date of Buhari’s declaration was announced yesterday in a terse statement by Ogbeh who gave no reason for the shift in date.
Another reason given by some of his foot soldiers was to enable some of his supporters who travelled to Mecca for the holy pilgrimage to return.
The statement reads in part, “The Buhari Presidential Campaign Organization has announced that the formal declaration ceremony by General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of his intention to contest the 2015 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been postponed for one week.”
