APC leaders’ arrests illegal — Falana

A human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, on Saturday, raised the alarm that no fewer than 25 APC leaders in Ekiti State were arrested by security operatives during the governorship election.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is from Ekiti State, alleged that the arrests were made to prevent the party leaders from monitoring the election.

Falana said, “What is a peaceful election, if you have over 36, 000 security operatives?

“Also, are you aware that some arrests have been made now? Not less than 25 have been arrested now, eight of them in Ado, including Charles Fasugba and others.

“In Igbonyin, its one Elder Awojolu. In Ilawe, two have been arrested.

That is what is going on and these are all APC people.

“If they (Police) say no, quote me that I said in Ilawe, one PDP member in a police vehicle pointed at the two people (allegedly arrested) and that is what is going on in other places. The man arrested in Igbonyin has been taken to Ikere Police Station now — a seventy-something to 80-year-old man.”
