Ekiti polls, litmus test for 2015 elections — NSCDC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Saturday commended the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Ekiti, describing it as a litmus test for the 2015 general elections.

The corps’ Deputy Commandant General, Mr. Evans Ewurum, gave the commendation after monitoring the voting exercise in some polling units in the state.

Ewurum said the Independent National Electoral Commission’s success in the Ekiti poll would provide a basis for determining the outcome of the forthcoming general elections in 2015.

He maintained there was no serious threat to public peace in spite of pockets of disagreements in some polling units.

The NSCDC boss said the mass deployment of security personnel across the state was to ensure a hitch-free exercise, adding that the large turnout indicated the resolve of voters to exercise their franchise.
