The Labour Party candidate in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, has said the deployment of a large number of security personnel, including soldiers, will be necessary for the peaceful conduct of the August 9 election.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mr. Kayode Oladeji, the LP candidate reiterated that he had not entered into any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party or its candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, regarding the governorship election.
He also said he had no intention to do so.
Akinbade urged the people of the state not to be swayed by the antics of his opponents, particularly his rumoured alliance with any party or candidate in the election.
He said this during a campaign tour of Ile-Ogbo,Ayedire Local Government Area of the state.
The candidate noted that the presence of security agents in the state during the election would help boost the confidence of the electorate, thereby ensuring a peaceful conduct of the exercise.
“I want to assure you that the planned deployment of security agents in the state for the coming election is to ensure its peaceful conduct. I believe they will be around to give us protection; so whoever is opposed to their coming, has some sinister motives,” Akinbade said.
The LP candidate implored voters to come out in large numbers to vote during the election and urged them to eschew acts that could jeopardise the process.
