The Ogun State Police have said a 46-year-old security guard, Bolaji Akinrounwi, who worked with a popular fast food restaurant in Alagbole, Akute, hanged himself with his belt.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that it was a clear case of suicide.
It was learnt that Akinrounwi had committed suicide in the early hours of Wednesday while on night duty at the restaurant.
Our correspondent learnt that before he killed himself, he first deleted all the phone numbers in his handset, making it difficult for his relatives to be contacted.
Adejobi said his body was discovered by one of the guards that was to take over from him the following morning.
He said, “Akinrounwi was found hanged in the eatery early in the morning by another security guard that was to take over from him.
“The main entrance into the place was locked. So, together with some people, the new guard scaled the fence to get into the compound.
“They saw him where he hanged himself near the staircase. He used his belt to hang himself.”
Adejobi said no mark of violence was seen on his body, ruling out any possibility of foul play.
“But we are still trying to locate his relations. He’s been taken to the mortuary and we will not bury him until investigations are concluded. For now, efforts are on to locate his family,” he added.
