Young delegates to the just concluded National Conference 2014 have decried the high level of unemployment in the country.
They lamented that Nigeria was experiencing economic growth without corresponding creation of jobs and wealth for the citizens.
Speaking under the umbrella of Young Patriots of Nigeria, which include other youth of like-mind, the young delegates appealed to politicians to stop politicising the security challenges.
They stated these in a statement on the 54th Independent Anniversary of Nigeria made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti by their Chairman, Ben Duntoye, and the secretary, Charles Ibiang.
The YPN also condemned the militarization of election in Nigeria, calling for its outright rejection.
Stressing that the insecurity in the country called for national concerns, the forum appealed to politicians to stop politicising the security challenges.
It, therefore, called on government and relevant stakeholders “to ensure the full implementation of the National Conference 2015 report as it guarantees our corporate coexistence, economic prosperity to reposition Nigeria within the comity of great nations.”
While congratulating President Goodluck Jonathan on the independence celebration, the forum called on government to improve its job creation drive.
The YPN which noted improvement in the electoral system also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to perfect its operations to justify the huge budget appropriated to it.
It said, “The Jega-led INEC must live up to expectation to give Nigeria credible elections in 2015. We express disapproval of the militarisation of our electoral process and demand that it should be discouraged.
“The YPN calls on the political classes not to betray the trust reposed on them by the citizens by showing restraint on their comments and statements so as not to overheat the polity,” the statement added.
