12 Nigerians to speak at WEFA opening today

Twelve distinguished Nigerians will be led by President Goodluck Jonathan to speak at the World Economic Forum Africa on some issues affecting Africa and the global economy, in Abuja today.

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to declare the forum open and deliver a key note address.

The President is listed in the programme of speakers as President of Nigeria; 1981 graduate in Zoology, University of Port Harcourt; Master’s in Hydrobiology and Fisheries Biology; Doctorate in Zoology. Former Preventive Officer, Nigerian Customs Service; Science Inspector of Education, Rivers State Ministry of Education; Lecturer, Department of Biological Sciences, Rivers State College of Education; 1993; Assistant Director of Ecology; Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission,OMPADEC, in charge of Environmental Protection, among other political appointments from 1999 as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, gradiuate of Economics, Harvard University; Ph.D in Regional Economics and Development, MIT; 2003-06, with Nigerian government: Finance Minister, then Foreign Affairs Minister. 2006-07 Visiting Fellow, Brookings Institution. With World Bank: 21 years as Development Economist; Country Director, Malaysia, Mongolia, Laos and Cambodia; Director of Operations, Middle East; Director of Institutional Change and Strategy; Vice-President and Corporate Secretary. Since 2011, Minister of Finance; currently also Coordinating Minister for the Economy, among other high-flying personal and Non-Governmental Organisational endeavours.

Diezani K. Alison-Madueke, Minister of Petroleum Resources of Nigeria Bachelor’s in Architecture, Howard University, USA; MBA, Cambridge University, UK; Worked in the United States; Returned to Nigeria to join Shell Petroleum Development Corporation. 2006 appointed as Shell’s first woman Executive Director; Nigeria. 2007 Minister, Transportation Ministry of Nigeria; 2008, Minister of Mines and Steel Development of Nigeria.
Others are Aliko Dangote President and Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Nigeria; Yonov Frederick Agah Deputy Director-General, World Trade Organisation, WTO, Geneva Biola Alabi Managing Partner, Alabi Media Consulting, Nigeria African media expert. Akudo Anyanwu Ikemba: Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Friends Africa (Friends of the Global Fund Africa), Nigeria Kola Karim: Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Shoreline Energy International, Nigeria, Maupe Ogun, Presenter, Channels Television, Nigeria, Stephen Olabisi Onasanya, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria, Muhammad Ali Pate, Professor, Duke Global Health Institute, USA MSc in Health Systems; MBA with health sector concentration, Duke University. Medical doctor. US board-certified in internal medicine and  Group Chief Executive, Oando.

The Forum will enable participants especially Nigeria businessmen and women to network with global business players to share ideas and exchange information. It will enable Nigeria to market its natural resources among key players who are decision makers in their various companies. Those who will be visiting the country for the very first time will have the rare opportunity of knowing the Nigerian people and it will help them to form their personal opinion about the country outside the negative image the international media has painted Africa. The hosting of the Forum will make Nigeria the center stage of global focus in the next three days.

Other speakers coming include eight from the United States of America, six from South Africa, six from the United Kingdom, three each from Senegal and Ghana, two from Netherlands and Zimbawe, two from China and one from Japan.
