Appointment of a New VC Generates Controversy-UNIZIK

Crisis has erupted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University following the appointment of Prof. Greg Nwakobi as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The crisis was blamed on the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Air Vice Marshall Lary Koinyan (rtd) who was said to have adopted a criteria for selection different from the one adopted by the Governing Council.

According to the report the selection process was contrary to the Template and Guidelines from the Federal Ministry of Education which the university’s governing council adopted as the standard for selection.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) UNIZIK chapter, Professor Ike Odumegwu, has called the selection process that named Prof. Greg Nwakobi the new VC’s a fraud and called for the removal of the Pro-Chancellor as chairman of the selection committee.
