UNIPORT gets N49m Laboratory Equipment from Shell

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) got a donation of a petroleum engineering drilling mud laboratory equipment worth N49.2 million from the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) last week.

Managing Director of Shell, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, while inaugurating the facility at the university’s campus in Choba, explained that the facility would be used to conduct research on exploration and production (E&P) in the nation’s oil and gas industry.

He disclosed that the same set of equipment had also been donated to the Federal University of Technoloy, Owerri (FUTO) and the University of Ibadan (UI), adding that the formal commissioning of the equipment was planned for a latter date.

Receiving the equipment, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ethelbert Nduka, described the university as the centre for excellence in oil and gas studies in sub-saharan Africa.

He assured that the facility would be put to best use just as it would make the institution compete favourably with top universities in the world.
