Duke University USA MasterCard Foundation Scholarships for Undergraduate Africans

Duke University, USA and MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program have partnered to offer Undergraduate Scholarships to Sub-Saharan Africa Students.

With a financial commitment of $13.5 million from The MasterCard Foundation, Duke will educate seven classes of five students — a total of 35 students — over the next 10 years.

The Duke University class of 2016 and class of 2017 include ten of these outstanding scholars selected not only for their academic capabilities, but also for their desire to become change agents in Africa.

CRITERIA

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Duke is open to students from sub-Saharan Africa who demonstrate financial need, academic ability and merit, and demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others in their communities.

Students apply to Duke first, and are then considered for The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars studying at Duke University for class of 2016 and class of 2017 are from South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mauritius, and Zimbabwe.

All undergraduate level courses offered at the university are eligible

5 will be awarded each year, until a total of 35 scholarships over the next 10 years

The scholarship covers the full period of study

One of Duke’s great advantages for The MasterCard Foundation Scholars is the network of resources the university provides to scholars, their families, and students who are interested in the program.

About fifty (50) scholarships will be granted for 2015

The award covers the whole duration of the masters programme -- 2 year programmes of 4 semesters

The IPOET scholarships covers 75% of the tuition fee for all available Master´s programmes at Chalmers. This means a 75% reduction of the tuition fees (4 semesters / 2 year programme).

Students who excel during their first year of studies may receive an increased scholarship reduction, which covers 85% of the tuition fee during the second and final year of studies.

No funds are transferred to the scholarship laureates.


HOW TO APPLY

By simply applying to Duke University all students from Africa will be considered for The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program based on academic talent, financial need, and interest in improving their communities.

DEADLINE

This award will be offered each year for the 10 year period. The 2015/16 deadline date for application is 1 January 2015
