The Nanyang Technological University funds the Nanyang President’s Graduate Doctoral Scholarship for international graduate or undergraduate final year students to study at Singapore.
The Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final-year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a doctoral degree programme (PhD) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), one of Asia's leading research universities.
Successful candidates will be known as Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholars.
Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarships for International Students
Up to 30 NPGS awards will be made available in each Academic Year
Funding will be provided for up to 4 years for NPGS awardees
The NPGS award terms are:
FULL support of tuition fees
Monthly stipend of S$3,200
Conference allowance up to S$4,000 per financial year (April previous year to March current year)
One-time IT allowance of S$1500
Annual grant of S$500 for journal subscription or book purchase
Thesis preparation allowance
Priority will be given for subsidised campus accommodation
CRITERIA
There is no restriction as to the nationality of candidates but all things being equal, preference will be given to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents.
You must have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level.
If you have not yet completed your undergraduate degree programme, you will need to furnish documentation from your university that you are on track to get a First Class Honours degree or equivalent.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications open on 1 October, and usually run for a month. All interested applicants for the August 2015 or January 2016 intake should apply during this period.
Please refer to the admissions website for the respective school’s intakes. Only applications made through this website will be considered for the NPGS award. Normal applications through our admissions website will not be eligible for the NPGS award. (Applicants to SPMS and SBS can apply for NPGS via our online application portal during this period of time)

DEADLINE
The application for Academic Year 2015-2016 (August 2015 and January 2016) will be open from 01st October to 30th November 2014.
PLEASE NOTE:
Failure to meet up with the eligibility criteria above will disqualify you from the NPGS award, in which case you may be considered for other NTU PhD research scholarships, subject to meeting their selection criteria.
During the first year, you will be expected to take relevant courses and to work towards passing the qualifying examination. In the event that this qualification is not met, there will be no conversion to a Masters degree for the NPGS awardees.
Upon passing the qualifying examination, NPGS awardees will be expected to undertake some undergraduate teaching (up to a limit of 10 hours per week). Awardees will be reimbursed if their teaching hours exceed what is required by the framework of their PhD training. Undergraduate teaching contributions will demand a high level of English language proficiency and you may be required to undertake English language courses as necessary in your first year.
