Governor Samuel Ortom of
Benue state has said the government will merge the College of
Agriculture in Yandev with the Benue State University, Makurdi. Ortom
stated this during a visit to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary
Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, in Abuja.
According to reports, the governor said the reason for merging the institutions is to allow for proper funding and management.
He asked the Fund to “provide
special assistance to the state, in order to establish a strong Faculty
of Agriculture in Benue State University following the planned merger.”
The governor urged TETFUnd to continue supporting Benue institutions,
adding that his administration is committed to developing agriculture in
the state because of it can create massive employment opportunities for
youths.
“If TETFund projects were removed from the institutions, nothing will remain,” he added.
In July, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina asked Bogoro to support the state in its bid to improve the education sector.
