Nigerian Turkish Nile University

About Nigerian Turkish Nile University Tertiary level education forms the bedrock of high level manpower development in any nation. This highlights the need for a qualitative education at this level. There is a dearth of instructions and infrastructure to cater for the needs of our ever increasing number of secondary school leavers. This has made it imperative for the private sector to take initiatives in the areas of providing tertiary education, especially for an organization that has a track record in providing high quality education.
The Nigerian Turkish International College started with humble beginnings in September 1998. The school opened with 23 students on a rented site at Cairo Street, Wuse 2, Abuja. Like an acorn, the NTIC has proliferated into a network of schools located in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, Ogun and Yobe States.
This phenomenal growth is attributable to the quality of Education obtainable in the NTIC Group of Schools. It is against this background that the parents and students of the NTIC have mounted pressure on the Management to establish a university that will carry on the tradition of the NTIC at the tertiary level.
In response to this, the parent company of the NTIC (SURAT Nigeria Ltd) came up with the idea of having a world class university in Abuja. This is how the Nigerian Turkish Nile University was born. Nigerian Turkish Nile University (NTNU) is located in the centre of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria; and close to many social facilities and natural wonders of the city. It provides its students with many opportunities.
Despite being a young institution, it is fast becoming a well known university in Nigeria.

Obafemi Awolowo University

Obafemi Awolowo University is a government-owned and -operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, led by late chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University on 12 May 1987 in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose brainchild the university was.

For more updates, news and info visit www.campusflava.com

History

The decision to establish the University of Ife (popularly referred to as "Great Ife") by the ruling Action Group party of the Western Region of Nigeria was in protest at the recommendations of the Ashby commission. The first Nigerian university was established in 1948 at Ibadan, in the western region as an external college of the university of London. However, the needs of Nigeria (then a British colony) far outstripped the productivity of the only university. In particular the University College at Ibadan had no faculty of engineering or technology, no law school, no pharmacy school or management training abilities. The Ashby commission, set up by the British, was to review tertiary education needs of the soon-to-be-independent nation of Nigeria.
In 1959, the Ashby commission recommended additional (regional) universities in the northern and eastern regions of Nigeria and another federal university in the Lagos protectorate, but none in the more educationally advanced western region which had a 'free and universal primary education' program. The government of the western region did not want to rely on the federal universities or those of other regions to admit its numerous secondary school leavers.
The protest of the foundation of the university at Ife was not only in rebuttal to the perceived politicization of higher education opportunities in Nigeria and the western region but was also designed to fill the gaps in the manpower needs.
Ife started the first Faculty of Pharmacy in West Africa, the first Department of Chemical Engineering and the first Electronics component in addition to Electrical Engineering. Its medical school started with an integrated curriculum and community orientation (which was later adopted by the World Health Organization) and a compulsory baccalaureate (BSc honours) before entrance to the clinical school, but this was later jettisoned.

Academics

Obafemi Awolowo University offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in fields of specialization spanning the humanities, the arts, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the medical sciences, engineering and technology.
The university has 13 faculties and two colleges — the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences — administered in more than 60 departments. It was previously associated with Loma Linda University in California, USA. Ever since the establishment of OAU, a total of 82 departments have emerged with numerous courses offered. Below is the list of departments: African Languages and Literature, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, Anaesthesia, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Animal Science, Archeology, Architecture, Biochemistry, Botany, Building, Business Law, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Pathology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Community Health and Nutrition, Computer Science and Engineering, Continuing Education, Demography and Social Statistics, Dermatology and Venerology, Dramatic Arts, Economics, Educational Administration and Planning, Educational Foundation and Counseling, Educational Technology, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, English Language, Environmental Health and Epidemiology, Estate Management, Fine Arts, Food Science and Technology, Foreign Languages, Geography, Geology, Haematology and Immunology, History, International Law, International Relations, Jurisprudence and Private Law, Linguistics, Literature in English, Local Government Studies, Management and Accounting, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Medical Rehabilitation, Medicine, Mental Health, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Microbiology, Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine, Music, Nursing, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perimatology, Oral Maxilofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology, Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Paediatrics and Child Health, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Philosophy, Physics, Physiological Sciences, Plant Science, Political Science, Preventive Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Periodontology, Psychology, Public Administration, Public Law, Quantity Surveying, Radiology, Religious Studies, Restorative Dentistry, Sociology and Anthropology, Soil Science, Special Education and Curriculum Studies, Surgery, Urban and Regional Planning and, Zoology,

Staff

The first vice-chancellor of the new university was Professor Oladele Ajose (MD, PhD) a Glasgow University graduate and Nigeria's first professor of public health recruited from the University of Ibadan. He served from 1962 to 1966, until political upheavals and military coups led him to be replaced. The second vice-chancellor was Professor H. A. Oluwasanmi, who served from 1966 to 1975. The newly appointed vice-chancellor is Professor Idowu Bamitale Omole, a professor of International Relations, appointment taking effect from 24 June 2011 and his tenure expiring in 2016.
Nigeria's only Nobel prize-winner (in literature), Wole Soyinka, served as professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Ife. At the close of last millennium, he was appointed an emeritus professor of Dramatic Arts at the university.
Stephen Adebanji Akintoye served as Director of the Institute of African Studies from 1974 to 1977.

Campus and student life

The motto of the university is "For learning and culture". However, owing to the rigorous and exacting academic standards, students[who?] have parodied this motto to "For learning and torture".
In terms of research productivity, Ife is ranked as the most productive university in Nigeria by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and by Shanghai University world rankings as it relates to Africa. Ife has attracted young Nigerian students because, for a long time, it had no lower age limit for admission.
Enrollment is about 12,000 for undergraduates and 6,000 for graduate studies. The major halls of undergraduate residences for males are Fajuyi, Awolowo, Angola and E.T.F. For women, halls of residence are Moremi, Ladoke Akintola, Alumni and Mozambique. Muritala Muhammed Hall is for postgraduates.
The university is endowed with beautiful architecture[citation needed] and an eye-catching landscape built on about 5,000 acres (20 km2) of a total of 13,000 acres (53 km2) of the land owned by the university.

St. Paul's University College

St. Paul's University College is an affiliated college of the University of Waterloo, located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The college has two functions: first, it is a residence for both undergraduate and graduate students of the University; and, second, it offers classes to all University students.

For more info, updates and news visit www.campusflava.com

History

St. Paul's was founded in 1962 by the United Church of Canada (UCC) and first opened its doors to students in 1963. The UCC's goal was to provide a place where students of any background, denomination, religion, or academic program could come to study and be stimulated academically, intellectually, and spiritually.

Residences

Saint Paul University has residences at 190 and 196 Westmount Rd. North. [2] St. Paul's has two residence communities: the undergraduate residence and the Graduate Apartments.

Undergraduate residence

The undergraduate residence opened in 1963 and houses 192 students on eight "floors". Seven of these floors - Empire, Wildside, Penthouse, Alcatraz, Dungeon, Oasis, and La Bastille - contain double accommodation and have been in use since the opening of the college. The remaining floor, Purgatory, opened in September, 2003 and has single accommodation. Empire was formerly known as Apathy, and Wildside was formerly known as W5 (Wild Wonderful Women of the West Wing).
The residence has several traditions that are unique to the college. The fall term begins with a week-long Orientation Week that is run jointly with the other residences and faculties to acquaint incoming first-year students with the campus. St. Paul's Orientation Week is traditionally centered around winning the Golden Beanie. Early in the fall term, the entire college plays a game of capture the flag, and another game entitled "Gotcha" where the residents try to tag and eliminate each other through survival of the fittest. Also in the fall term, the male residents on Empire organize the Empire Wine & Cheese.
The Winter Formal is held in the winter term and is a night with a dinner and dance. In early March, the annual Blackforest Coffeehouse showcases talent from both the college and the region; most performers present musical acts, although other acts (such as magic or spoken word) are sometimes showcased.
Each school night, toast and several spreads are made available at Toast Time so that students can have a study break. Other regular activities include writing workshops, intramural sports teams, and community dinners.
La Bastille, a floor that houses 17 French-speaking students, is the only such floor on the Waterloo campus. A tutor from France lives on the floor from September through April to help stimulate French-language growth in the students. Occasionally, students from La Bastille will eat together over a conversation in French or watch a French movie.
Facilities that are available to students include a cafeteria with full meal service, three lounges, a library and study hall, a chapel (now mainly functioning as a multipurpose classroom), and a games room.

Graduate Apartments

The Graduate Apartments at St. Paul's opened in September, 2004. The building houses over 100 graduate students in 80 apartments and suites. There is a variety of designs available in the units, including single accommodation, double accommodation, and accommodation to house the student's family. There are also 8 rooms available to visitors of the University (such as parents, researchers, and visiting professors).

Academic programs

St. Paul's offers a small number of courses in the areas of Spirituality and Personal Development, Native Studies, and Religious Studies. St. Paul's was the home of the Canadian Studies program; however, the program closed at the end of the 2004-05 academic year.
The College will propose a new program to the University of Waterloo administration in the area of International Development. This program will be a multidisciplinary program that teaches students about volunteerism and philanthropy and how to use it across the globe.

Aboriginal Student Services

St. Paul's is home to the University of Waterloo's Aboriginal Counsellor. The counsellor is available to members of the university community for counselling, academic advice, and liaising to aboriginal resources. The Aboriginal Counsellor works closely with the Aboriginal Students Association to provide opportunities for aboriginal students to explore and celebrate their heritage.
Events that are organised that are of interest to aboriginal students include weekly speakers as part of the NATST 370 course and the annual SUNDANCe Pow-Wow.

Environmental Studies Living Learning Community

In 2007, St. Paul's welcomed ES students into the new Living and Learning Community. This program offers students the chance to live with their classmates and attend many faculty oriented events as well as social programming.

Salem International University

Salem International University (commonly referred to as SIU) is an American private university located in Salem, West Virginia, in the United States. It has about 835 students, enrolled in undergraduate as well as graduate programs, and was founded by the Seventh Day Baptist Church in 1888

History

The school was founded as Salem College in December 1888 by the Seventh Day Baptist Church.[1] Over the next 100 years, the school continued as a liberal arts, teacher education, and nursing college. In 1989 it formed an alliance with Teikyo University of Tokyo, Japan, which changed the focus of the school to one of education of international students in a unique atmosphere. Salem College was renamed Salem-Teikyo University. The alliance with Teikyo ended in 2000, when the school was purchased by investors from Singapore. At that time, the school changed its name to Salem International University. Salem International University was acquired by Salem Education LLC in June 2005.[3]
The Salem College Administration Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.[4]

Accreditation

Salem is regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Mission Statement

The school's mission is "to prepare global citizens with broad knowledge, marketable professional skills and the ability to make decisions with integrity and an international perspective."

Degree programs

Salem offers a variety of undergraduate degree including an Associate of Science in Business Administration, an Associate of Science in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Management, HR Management, Sports Management, International Business), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (CSI or general). The BSED offers specializations in Social Studies, Health, and Physical Education. The School of Nursing also offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( a baccalaureate degree-completion program for registered nurses who have an associate degree) and a certificate in Practical Nursing.
At the graduate level, SIU offers a Master of Business Administration MBA (International Business, Health Care Management), Master of Education (Educational Leadership), Master of Education (Curriculum and Instruction). Teachers may take courses in the School of Education a non-degree format to renew their license. A certificate in Educational Leadership also is offered.

Instruction

All programs, including distance education programs, are delivered in a monthly format allowing students to complete their degrees more quickly than their counterparts at other traditional or online universities. This attracts non-traditional students conscious of time and accessibility.
Since classes are four weeks long, the MBA or M.Ed. can be completed in 12 months, a Bachelor's in 40 months, or an Associate's in only 20 months, if a student were to start college studies without any prior college credits.

Financial Aid

Salem is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the Title IV program, which also allows students to obtain the benefits of Pell grants and other federal funding programs. They will even allow payment plans for any remaining amount although in terms that do not exceed the semester.

University of Agriculture, Abeokuta

he Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State (FUNAAB) was established on 1 January 1988 by the Federal Government when four Universities of Technology, earlier merged in 1984, were demerged. This led to the creation of the first two Universities of Agriculture in Abeokuta and Makurdi.
On the same date, Professor Nurudeen Olorun-Nimbe Adedipe was appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University. Professor Adedipe officially assumed duty on 28 January 1988. For many years the date which Professor Adedipe assumed duty was wrongly adopted as the foundation day of the University. Following a revisit to the instrument setting up the University, a Council decision at its 53rd Statutory meeting in June 2010 reverted the foundation date to 1 January 1988 as prescribed by the law which established the University.
Prior to the emergence of FUNAAB, the Federal Government had established the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB) in 1983. Then, in 1984, it was merged with the University of Lagos and had its name changed to the College of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (COSTAB), before the demerger of January, 1988.
The University started off from the old Campus of Abeokuta Grammar School, Isale-Igbein near the city centre. It completed its movement to its Permanent Site along Alabata Road in 1997, in what has been termed the fastest pace of Permanent Site development in the history of Nigerian University System.
At the initial stage, five Colleges were introduced in the University in October 1988 as follows:

Two additional Colleges, College of Engineering (COLENG) and College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) were introduced in March, 2002. During 2008/2009 session, the College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development and Consumer Studies was split into two with two new Colleges emerging as follows:
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta with the acronym UNAAB is one of the three Universities of Agriculture in Nigeria, the other being in Makurdi (Benue State) and Umudike(Abia State). It was established in January 1988. The University started at its mini-campus in Isale-Igbein right in the heart of Abeokuta, the Capital of Ogun State. The University moved in December 1997 to its permanent site, a 10,000-hectare Campus which is located next to the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road in the North Eastern end of the city, 15 km from Abeokuta City Centre.
