ASUU strike: NANS demonstrates in Kano

PIQUED by the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has paralysed academic activities in the nation’s universities, hundreds of members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Thursday, staged a solidarity demonstration in Kano.

The students began their demonstration from Bayero University, Kano, (BUK) old campus and moved to various strategic places in the city. The demonstration also lasted for many hours and the students covered over 20 kilometres.

Addressing the crowd of students, the national president of NANS, Babale Bashir, said the demonstration was a national mass action directed by NANS, saying other institutions were also doing a similar thing in other cities.

He added that the demonstration was a peaceful one, adding that its motive was to sensitise the general public to the fact that there were problems in Nigeria’s education sector, hence the need to join forces together and solve them once and for all.
