The letter reads in part: "We have compelling reasons to solicit your cooperation and support in this great struggle. The sacrifices may be much but they are however worthy of being offered by all well meaning academics, under\post graduate students and Nigerians"

Dr Olowe dismissed the claim that ASUU is engaged in the present struggle for personal gains
"The impression is generally created that ASUU is on this struggle in order to receive fat salaries. This is not true. The essence of the strike action is to impress it on government to see reasons why it should adequately fund education for national development, to stall brain drain and create good learning, teaching and research environment'.

The chairman of UNILAG chapter of ASUU enjoined the parents that the present struggle is about the development of education and the future of their children in the universities
"Those in power are well-aware of the importance of these demands by ASUU. As students in Nigerian universities, you experience and bear the brunt and burden of the consequences of the inaction of government on education."

The letter stressed further that children of serving politicians are all studying abroad adding that foreign trained students get preference in the employment market in Nigeria."
