The Faculty of Education of the University of Jos was yesterday thrown into turmoil when a suicide bomber was said to have been sighted in the school premises.
An alarm was raised which saw students and lecturers abandoning classrooms and taking to their heels.
It was gathered that some of the students summoned courage and confronted the suspected suicide bomber.
He was beaten up to a point of coma before security agents intervened and took him away.
It was later discovered the accused was a student, who was actually carrying a polythene bag containing Garri and milk into the faculty lecture hall and was asked to reveal the content but initially declined, which led to the beating he received.
The President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university, Mr. Abel Nok, confirming this said, there was no bomb planted in the faculty and urged the students to go about their normal academic activities.
According to report there has been rumours of explosives planted around the faculty which was the reason a black polythene bag containing Garri and milk was mistaken for explosives resulting in pandemonium.
However, there has not been any official statement by the school authorities or the police concerning the incident as at the time of filling this report.
