Ife, Ilesa voters express views on Aregbesola, Omisore

Some of the voters in Moore ward 01, Unit 4, Ife-East, who decided to vote for Governor Rauf Aregbesola, said they did so because of their belief that the governor would transform the state by the time he completed a second term.

Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Iyiola Omisore, was clearly the preferred candidate of Ife people and he voted in one of the units in Ife-East, where he won by a wide margin. But in the unit 4, 103 voters voted for All Progressives Congress candidate, Aregbesola, while Omisore polled 403. Among the 103 voters was Abiodun Samuel, who told our correspondent after the result of the unit was announced that Aregbesola deserved a second term.

“Omisore is a man of the people in Ife but democracy is beyond judging by sentiment. Osun State earns low allocation but when you consider what the governor has done in the past four years, you will agree with me that he deserves to continue the work. I did not vote for the party but its candidate,” Samuel said.

His brother, Oluyemi, said his choice of Aregbesola over his kinsman, Omisore, was because the PDP candidate is controversial.

“To be fair to Omisore, he loves the people but I don’t understand why his name is always mentioned in controversial cases. We attend the same church denomination while the governor is a Muslim but religious sentiments will draw this state backward,” he said.

In the same vein, voters who voted for Omisore in front of Aregbesola’s house in Ifofin, Ilesa, told our correspondent that they did so because of the fear that second term was an excessive stay in office

The polling unit in front of Aregbesola’s family house was ward 08 unit 7, where APC had 214 votes to PDP’s 41.

An elderly man who gave his name as Pa Adesanya told our correspondent who visited the unit during the election that although he had never met Omisore, he was convinced that he would try as much as possible to do more than what Aregesola has done in the state.

“I have lived long enough to know that governors who get second term don’t do anything, they concentrate on what they will take home and succession plan, which consumes the state fund and valuable time,” he said.
