Ward congresses to elect delegates that will choose the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party were held in all the 203 wards of Ondo State on Saturday without conflicts despite the initial divisions existing within the party.
The exercise which started at 8am and lasted until 2pm was supervised by a team from the Abuja headquarters of the party led by Senator Lekan Mustapha and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The chairman of the caretaker committee set up by the national leadership to manage the affairs of the party following the dissolution of the State Working Committee, Dare Adeleke, also monitored the congresses.
It was gathered that three delegates were elected in each of the wards and in accordance with the new arrangement reached by the two factions of the party in the state.
Defecting members of the Labour Party (LP) were to make up two-third of the delegates list while members of the old PDP filled the remaining one-third.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise in Akure, both Adeleke and Mustapha expressed satisfaction with its conduct saying the outcome would definitely reflect the the position of the members of the party.
Adeleke said, “The exercise is going on smoothly as you all can see. There is no rancour anywhere and reports from across the state show that it is peaceful all over. So I am optimisdtic that the outcome will reflect the will of the members of this great party.
