Crisis At ESUT Over VC’s Appointment

Reactions has continue to trail the appointment of Prof. Luke Anike as the new Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.
A group, Enugu Regional Association (ERA), has condemned what it called irregularity and injustice that characterised the appointment of Prof Luke Anike as the Vice-Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
A senior staff from old Enugu region that served and are currently serving in University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, has called on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to set up a high-powered commission of inquiry to look into the matter.
Addressing newsmen after ERA’s emergency meeting at Nsukka, President of the association, Prof Aloysius Okolie, said: “ERA has no interest on who becomes ESUT Vice-Chancellor but that as stakeholders in advancing qualitative education and good governance in the state, we condemn injustice no matter whose ox is gored.
“After an interview considered to be transparent and followed rigorously the rule of law and due process, the name of Prof Ben-Chris Onah was submitted to the visitor and ratified.
‘’It was announced in media for four to five days as having been duly appointed as vice-chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
“Surprisingly, as he was invited to come and collect the letter of appointment, he got there and discovered that there had been a major twist and the twist was that the appointment paper had been given to another contender, Prof Luke Anike.

Okolie said the panel became necessary to enable the public know why a particular candidate was appointed as VC after another candidate had been selected.
