Apete bridge will be completed in September – Oyo Govt

The Oyo State Government has said that the Apete bridge currently undergoing reconstruction will be completed by the end of September.

The Commissioner for Works, Bimbo Kolade, told journalists in Ibadan shortly after inspecting some road and bridge projects within Ibadan metropolis.

Kolade said the delay in the completion of the 45-metre bridge was to enable solidification and laying of pre-cast concrete materials used for the project.

He said that Oyo State Government had instructed the contractor handling the project to expand the water channels to allow for easy flow of water.

The commissioner said Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration would not leave any of the projects it initiated uncompleted.

“The apprehension of the people that government has abandoned the bridge and that rain has washed away the bridge is not true.

“We are here and you can see that the work is really in progress on the project. The assurance that I will give to the people is that the work is going on.

“A period of waiting must be observed otherwise things will fail along the line. Our people should be patient with government,” Kolade said.

NAN reported that the bridge was affected by last week’s flood in the area.
