It was gathered that a group of suspected cultists stormed the Kwara
State Polytechnic, Ilorin yesterday afternoon shooting sporadically and
killing a student consequently.
The deceased who was said to have been shot close to the Institute of
Finance and Management Studies in the institution was taken to the
University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention but was
pronounced dead later.
While commenting on the incident the rector of the polytechnic, Alhaji
Moshood Elelu, said the student that died is not a student of the
institution.
In his words, “Reports from the network of security made available to me
confirmed that the student who was shot is not our student. We have
refused to join the strike and there have been various attempts to
frustrate us which have been successfully resisted.”
The incident temporarily stifled academic activities as most of the
students boycotted lectures and were seen in clusters obviously
discussing the incident.
