students of Osun State secondary school this morning took to the
streets to protest alleged imposition of tax on their parents.

Police operatives in Rivers state have arrested a suspected cultist -a
graduate of the University of Port-Harcourt UNIPORT identified as
Ikeadighim Michael Nwachukwu, who revealed that he joined a cult to gain
prestige.
Nwachukwu, who just graduated from the department of Marketing at the
University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, told newsmen when he was paraded
by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hyelasinda Musa Kimo, that he
was caught with a battle axe on his way to Umuahia, Abia State.
He stated that he had already joined the Black Axe fraternity in Lagos
before gaining admission into UNIPORT to study marketing in 2011.
“I was caught with this axe while traveling from UNIPORT to Umuahia. The axe is a battle axe for cultists. I won’t deny it, I’m a cultist but I was taking this axe home to bury it because I had graduated.

Lecturer Caught Pants Down With Married Woman In Asaba
A randy senior lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Asaba,
Delta State, one Mr Simeon (surname withheld) was at the weekend
allegedly caught pants down with a married woman in one of the hotels
along Abraka road, Asaba.
It was gathered that the lecturer escaped amidst a crowd of people who thronged into the hotel to catch a glimpse of the unfolding drama when relations of the woman’s husband allegedly caught her dressing up outside the hotel room and called the husband who immediately mobilised persons to the hotel.
It was further learnt that the bubble burst when the lecturer, who taught the woman while she was a student in the school, sent a love text message to her GSM phone, and was read by the husband who mobilised secretly to monitor her activities.
The woman, identified as Winifred, (surname withheld) while she was being beaten, confessed to the act but was rescued by the policemen at the ‘B’ Division Asaba who were called to the scene of the crime.
Police officers, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the woman’s clothes were already torn before their arrival, adding that upon interrogation, she said it was the devil’s work.
Meanwhile, the husband, Mr Moses (surname withheld) a senior staff of the state-owned newspaper company said he would send her packing.“It is over for my wife. The only saving grace is that the lecturer escaped,” he said.

The attention of the Great Ife Students’ Union has been drawn to the malicious propaganda that has circulated the media as regards the 1.8 Million naira budgeted for phone calls for Students’ Union Officers in Obafemi Awolowo University.
The Great Ife Students’ Union which serves as a model to other students’ union will not watch and look as this incorrect information continues to perverse the mind of the Nigeria populace. It is extremely important to say that we are not new to this malicious and mud-slinging act and out rightly condemns the post on punch.
It is very laughable that propaganda came out at a time when the budget is yet to be presented, deliberated upon and debated at the level of the parliament. The parliament has fixed October 12, 2015 for the budget sitting. The clerk of the House, Hon Ogunkanmi Omotayo in his statement “I was utterly shocked to read the news, and sees it as a campaign of misrepresentation and calumny against the students’ union leaders. The parliament is yet to receive, let alone deliberated upon any budget whatsoever. Then where comes the 1.8 million news?”. The authentic report of the parliament can only be issued by the clerk and he is yet to be contacted.
We sincerely consider this falsehood as a reprisal attack from the authorities that felt affected by the rally, as the Students Union joined in the Anti-Corruption Campaign yesterday in Oshogbo by staging “An Aregbesola Must Pay Rally” where we demanded the unconditional payment of all Workers in Oshogbo and further issued a 14-days Ultimatum to the President of the Federation to appoint a minister of Education and further demanded the implementation of the 26% budgetary allocation as recommended by UNESCO. Prior to the mass rally, the Students’ Union already paid the sum of 1.6 million to bail out 85 indigent students who could not afford the fee and risk the losing the session.
It is instructive to know that the recent propaganda which is maliciously aimed at bringing the sacred image of the Students’ Union and University in the mud may not be disconnected from the yesterday’s Anti- Corruption Crusade and the incessant clamour of a better living condition of the Nigeria people.
The Students’ Union, Obafemi Awolowo University will not at any point in time derail from the basic principles of Independent Unionism which is based on transparency, accountability which are standing legacies left by the likes of Lanre Adeleke (Lanre Legacy), Adeola Soetan, Segun Okeowo, George Iwilade Afrika who laid his life for the Union.
We hereby re-affirm our commitment towards intellectual and radical campaign against corrupt and irresponsible leaders at the helm of affairs and will consistently push for a Nigeria where Education is considered as a Right and not a privilege

Lecturers in Osu Protest Unpaid Salaries
Lecturers under the aegis of Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun
State Owned Tertiary Institutions stormed the Osun State House of
Assembly to protest nonpayment of their salaries for the past eight
months.
The lecturers, who had been on strike for the past three months were led by leaders of the body including Chairman, Lasisi Jimoh; Secretary Olusegun Lana and Public Relations Officer, Dotun Omisore.
The lecturers, who were armed with placards with various inscriptions, were chanting, ‘Save our Souls’, ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘Pay our Salaries’ and ‘We Reject Half Salaries’, sang anti-government songs.
They also rejected the plan of the state government to pay half salaries while saying they would not submit themselves to fresh screening directed by the government.
The irate lecturers said the plan of the state government to pay workers half salaries was shocking because the state had received its share of the bailout fund from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The letter was signed by the CASUOSTI Chairman, Lasisi Jimoh; secerayry, Olusegun Lana; Chairman Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Iree, Dotun Omisore; ASUP chairman, Esa Oke, Adesola Akande; COEASU Ila-Orangun Chairman, Segun Onifade and COEASU Ilesa Chairman, Oladele Ojo.
The Chief Whip of the House of Assembly, Mr. Folorunsho Bamisayemi, while addressing the protesters appealed to them to exercise patience, saying efforts were underway to ensure their demands were met.
However, the Speaker, Mr. Najeem Salam, after after spending some minutes with the protesters walked out on them.
The Secretary of the council, who spoke with our correspondent, said lecturers had been on strike for the past months without government seeking to negotiate with them.
Lana said, “We came to the House of Assembly to submit Save Our Souls letter. The protest went well until the Speaker walked out on us.
” The state government has not been remitting pension deductions from our salaries to our Pension Fund Administrators, this is against the law. The deductions are supposed to be remitted seven days after salaries are paid but this is not happening.”
Lana also stated that the institutions were understaffed and the few lecturers were overburdened despite not being paid for many months.

A Pupil Who Got Injured In The Jos School Building Collapse
This is one of the survivors of the school building collapse –the Abu
Naima Primary and Secondary School, a private Islamic school in Jos,
the Plateau state which collapsed on pupils yesterday Sept. 13th. He is
among the 24 pupils that were injured when the school building
collapsed. 10 pupils died from the incident.

OAU Students Union Pays School Fees For 85 Students
The Obafemi Awolowo University student's union has again set the pace
for others to follow as they announce the completion of payment of
school fees for indigent students. These students were supported under
the student's union scholarship scheme program of which about 85 of them
benefitted from.
The Public Relations Officer of the union, comrade Ojedokun Emmanuel Kant who confirmed this on his facebook wall also said that this was a crown to their promise at the pre-electioneering and electioneering period.
He also stated that students welfare would not be sacrificed for a stable academic calendar and called for the immediate renovation of the hostels to stop the animalistic lifestyle lived by some of their students.
Also, the Vice President of the TY-led administration has been said to be working on an on-going tutorial mostly for part one students to address mass failure and offer academic welfarism.

Emmanuel Akala Awarded $1.1Million To Study Novel Breast Cancer
Emmanuel O. Akala, Ph.D., director of the Center for Drug Research
and Development, has been awarded a prestigious NIH/National Cancer
Institute grant of $1,132,500 for three years to support innovative
breast cancer research.
Dr. Akala also is professor of pharmaceutics in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy. The project title is “Novel Nanotechnology Platform for Breast Cancer Treatment.”
The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) over expression has been reported in 20%–25% of all breast cancers and is associated with a poor prognosis. The grant will assist Dr. Akala to develop multifunctional polymeric nanoparticles to test the hypothesis that tri-modal combination nanoparticles will prove more effective with less toxicity than current standard of care therapies for HER2-positive breast cancers. This nanotechnology platform for breast cancer treatment will, when completed, bring to bear the combined power of a chemotherapeutic agent, molecular targeted therapy and HSP90 inhibitor, to overcome HER2 breast cancer resistance with minimal toxicity.
A second grant is a collaboration between Dr. Akala and Dr. Oleg Bol'shakov of South Ural State University in Russia. The one-year, $110,000 grant will be funded by CRDF Global, an independent nonprofit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration between international researchers. Dr. Bol’shakov is a former post-doctoral fellow who trained under Dr. Akala’s supervision.
Dr. Akala received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1980 from the University of Ife in Ile-Ife, Nigeria and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Manchester, England. He also served as a DAAD Research Fellow with the German Academic Exchange Program in1993, which gave him the opportunity to conduct research in Germany.He is a registered pharmacist in Nigeria, Utah, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Dr. Akala has made significant contributions to the College of Pharmacy and was honored as the 2013 Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year” by the Howard University School of Pharmacy Alumni Association.

FUNAAB To Admit 3500 Out Of 12,500 Candidates That Sat For 2015 Post-UTME
The management of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta
(FUNAAB) has disclosed that the University will only admit 3,500 out of
the 12,500 candidates that participated in the 2015 post-UTME screening
exercise.
This was made known by the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Olukayode Akinyemi while commenting on the just concluded screening exercise.
He commended the efforts of the Federal Government in bench-marking the admission process, because it would allow many prospective students to have access to other levels of higher education such as the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
He stated that it was imperative for Universities to have their own bench-marks, to maintain high standards. He noted that there were still other ways of screening-out candidates with bad characters even though they might have met the basic academic requirements in the interest of the system.
Professor Akinyemi, however, advised candidates who could not be admitted into FUNAAB not to be discouraged as there were other institutions that could still admit them, because for now, FUNAAB could only admit about 3,500 applicants.

in the Entrance Examination of the Third Regular Course of the Degree
Programme of the Nigeria Police Academy (NPA), Wudil held on 6th June,

All candidates will first undergo a screening exercise which involves certificates screening, medical tests and physical fitness tests. Only candidates who pass the screening exercises will qualify to continue with the interview.
Candidates must bring along the originals and photocopies of the following documents:
a. Academic certificates/statements of result and testimonials for primary and secondary schools (Junior and Senior).
b. Birth Certificate (preferable) or Declaration of Age.
c. Proof of State and Local Government of origin duly signed by the Secretary to the State Government or Chairman of Local Government as the case may be.
Certificates obtained from Police Officers from the same state of the rank of Chief Superintendent and above can be used in place of Certificate of Local Government of Origin.
In this case, the officer must indicate his formation/unit, appointment, contact address, phone numbers and e-mail address. The officer must also affix his/her formation/unit stamp and sign.
d. Acknowledgement Cards for external SSCE/GCE only.
e. Police Academy acknowledgement forms downloaded from the Internet and/or proof of purchase of the Application Form from Zenith Bank.
f. Candidates are to bring along copy of their postcard signed by the Supervisor or the Assistant Supervisor of the Center where they sat for the entrance examination
Candidates who fail to bring along the documents listed above will be disqualified. Any alteration on the documents will attract outright disqualification.

a. Two blue shorts and Two white T Shirts.

Uniport Students on Rampage Over Death of Student;Barricade UPTH (Photos)
Aggrieved University of Port Harcourt,
UNIPORT, students have chased away all the doctors and nurses at the
University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and locked up the hospital
gate, barring movement in and out of the health facility.
The protesting students who came out in their numbers first barricaded the East-West road before moving straight to the University Hospital where they chased all the medical officials on call as a show of annoyance over the death of a Theatre Art student.
The students said the level of neglect of the students of the hospital was much as over 20 of its students have died in UPTH as a result of negligence.
The most recent of the death is that of a female final year student of Theater Art who died, Sunday night, in UPTH after doctors and nurses in the hospital allegedly refused to attended to her.

The aggrieved students complained that
their students die on daily bases due to carelessness on the side of the
doctors and nurses serving in the school owned hospital, UPTH.
The students regretted that even after
the School Management collect medical fees from students that the school
and the hospital still do not care about the health of the students of
the institution.
The students said they want the management of the university to review the relationship between UPTH and the school which would enable students to know their stand when critical health issues occur.
One of the leaders of the protest, Miss Judith Oyila who is a final year student of Theatre Art said, “We are angry because we have lost another of our student again in UPTH, a 200 level student of Theatre Art.”

“She died because of neglect by the
doctors and nurses in that hospital. How could it be that a student
slumped and students rushed her to UPTH but the doctors left her for
over six hours without treatment and the poor girl died.”
“We want the world to hear the injustice
that we are facing here even in the hand of the doctors in our
institution’s hospital. The doctors abandoned her without treatment.”
“They gave excuses that do not worth it:
saying no bed to keep her, no fuel, no ambulance until she died. The
Doctors forgot that we pay for health.”
“We want the government to sanction the
school and UPTH for this, as well compel them to do a review of their
policies as it concerns students health.”
Meanwhile, the development has stocked
activities in the hospital, resulting to relocation of some of the
patients at the emergency ward to outside hospitals.
Some of the patients in the wards have expressed fear that the development may result to strike by the doctors in UPTH.
They call on the government and the security agencies to wade into the situation to bring the issue under control.
When reached at press time, the Public Relations Officer of the University of Port Harcourt, Mr. Obinna Wodi said he was not disposed to make any comments until the school authority meets with the Students’ Union Government.
