An unnamed National Youth Service Corps member was reportedly injured during violence that erupted as some registered voters in some parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, were collecting their Permanent Voter Cards on Friday.
The corps member who is an INEC ad-hoc official at Ode Belgore was said to have been hit by broken bottles in three places before he was rushed to hospital by members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps.
Trouble was said to have started as a result of a disagreement from agents of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The affected areas include: Isale Maliki, Ode Alege, Ode Belgore polling units, all in Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent learnt that the violence erupted when some PDP and APC agents clashed over collation of data of those who were to receive their PVCs.
It was gathered that in a bid to prevent manipulation, the PDP agents reportedly were recording names of registered prospective voters who came to collect their PVCs, while those of the APC supporters were said to be recording their serial numbers.
A disagreement was said to have ensued but was swiftly contained by the intervention of the police and the NSCDC armed squad.
Another violence was said to have later ensued between supporters of both parties.
Our correspondent gathered that some hoodlums mobilised themselves from different areas, brandishing weapons, and shot sporadically into the air, causing panic in the areas.
Following the pandemonium, collection was said to have been brought to an abrupt end, as people fled.
Spokesman for the Kwara State Command of NSCDC, identified simply as Mr. Abdulkadir, confirmed the incident.
He stated that the corps member was given first aid treatment by the Corps’ Disaster Management team before being taken to hospital for treatment.
