Daniel wasn’t our member – PPN

The Peoples Party of Nigeria has refuted a claim attributed to the Chairman, Southwest Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Buruji Kashamu, that the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, dumped the PPN after the 2011 governorship election, describing it as baseless.

In a statement by the party, the National Secretary of PPN, Mr. Razaq Eyiowuawi, said the former governor was never a registered member of the party at any level and therefore, the claim that he dumped the party was unfounded.

The statement said, “You cannot dump a party that you never joined, so to us, the statement was absurd, ridiculous and mischievous. He neither registered with the party at any level nor contested election on the platform of the party.”

However, the PPN acknowledged that over 30 governorship aspirants approached it in the run-up to the 2011 general elections, among who were Mr. Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, who later became the party’s flagbearer in the said election, and Daniel’s deputy, Alhaja Salmot Badru, who contested for the House of Representatives seat.

While describing Daniel as an elder statesman and a businessman of repute, the party called on the former governor to team up with the party in her quest to take the Gateway State to greater height.
