In response to the call from some delegates at the national conference
for an increase in the corps members’ allowance, the director general
NYSC, Brig-Gen Johnson Olawumi, while speaking during a courtesy visit
by the commander, Guards Brigade, Nigeria Army in his office, revealed
that that the allowance to corps members cannot be increased, at least
not for now as this depends on availability of funds.
According to him we should appreciate the efforts of the Government so
far in keeping the scheme alive; considering the huge resources
channeled in that regard every year.
He equally revealed that in their efforts to reposition the scheme they
have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bank of Industry.
This according to him will give corps members who have obtained entrepreneurial skills access to loans.
