CUPAF chairman tasks parents on education development

The Chairman, Crescent University Parents’ Forum and Special Adviser on Education to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Fatai Olukoga, has called on parents to contribute their quota to the development of education and its institutions.

Speaking at the 7th Annual General Meeting of the Forum, where his tenure as the chairman was unanimously extended owing to what the university management and the forum described as his meritorious service to the institution, Olukoga called on parents to take advantage of opportunities they have to contribute to education.

Pledging to take the forum and the school to greater heights, Olukoga said, “Effective communication is essential for building school-family partnerships and it constitutes the foundation for all other forms of family involvement in education, because positive parent-school communications and development benefit parents on the long run.”

While calling on parents to be involved in their children’s education, he said, “The most accurate predictor of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status but the extent to which that student’s family is able to create a home environment that encourages learning.

“And because if parents’ contributory activities are effectively planned and well implemented, it could result in substantial benefits for the children, parents, educators, and the school, thus my efforts in the forum.” A statement signed by Adunola Oladapo on behalf of the forum said Olukoga, who is an aspirant to the House of Representatives in the 2015 election, had performed beyond the imagination of the school management and the forum by taking the institution to an enviable height of greatness during his two terms as the chairman.
