Kagawa apologises to fans

Shinji Kagawa has apologised after Japan were dumped out of the World Cup at the group stage, Manchester Evening News reports.

Alberto Zaccheroni’s men suffered a 4-1 defeat to Colombia on Tuesday that ensured they would finish bottom of Group C with just one point.

And Kagawa feels he “wasn’t good enough” to make an impact in Brazil.

“I know many fans were rooting for us and I felt their strong expectations,” he said,

“But I just wasn’t good enough to achieve anything and I feel sorry for letting them down. It is frustrating that the World Cup is now over.

“My career goes on. It might take some time to accept this but I’ll prepare myself to move on.”

“It hurts to go out like this,” the Manchester United player told Japanese television broadcast on Wednesday. “I don’t have any other words. I feel responsible and deeply sorry. It’s pathetic.”

He added, “It’s embarrassing. After I’d said Japan would win the tournament, in the end it finished with just empty talk,” added Honda, who dismissed talk of international retirement.”
