Adamawa lawmakers, ALGON back Fintiri’s gov ambition

The Adamawa State House of Assembly and the state’s branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, have endorsed the ambition of the acting governor of the state, Ahmadu Fintiri, to contest in the forthcoming governorship bye-election in the state.

The acting speaker, Kwamoti Laori, said at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yola on Monday, that the state lawmakers had bought the party’s intent form for Fintiri as a sign of their support for the acting governor’s ambition.

He said the lawmakers took the decision to enable the acting governor to complete the “good work” he had started.

“The measure was because we have confidence in him, we appealed to the PDP in the state to endorse and bless the candidature of Ahmadu Fintiri to enable him to complete the good work he has started,” Laori said.

Fintiri had on Friday picked the PDP’s intent form to run in the October 11 governorship bye-election in Adamawa State.

Speaking on behalf of the chairmen of the 21 local governments in the state, the state ALGON chairman, Alhaji Sahabo Gurin, also pledged support for the acting governor’s intention to contest in the forthcoming election.

On their part, spokesperson for Adamawa State cabinet members, the Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, called on the people of the state to ensure the stability of the Fintiri-led interim government.

He called on the people to support the ambition of the acting governor, who he said had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he was capable to deliver, as the state had witnessed “appreciable progress within his short time in office”.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Joel Madaki, said the acting governor, was the first candidate to pick the party’s intent form for the governorship bye-election.

He assured the acting governor of the party’s fairness, equity and justice to all candidates.

In his remark, Fintiri said he decided to run in the governorship election to enable him to consolidate his achievements within his short period in office.

He said, “My interest to contest was borne out of the desire for me to consolidate on the gains my administration have recorded within few days in office.

“It was a clarion call by the people of Adamawa for me to serve them in that capacity as governor.”

Fintiri said his campaign would soon commence even as he expressed satisfaction with “the caliber of personalities yearning for him to contest”.

Fintiri, the then Speaker of the House of Assembly, was sworn in as the acting governor on July 15, after the former governor, Murtala Nyako, was impeached and the office of his deputy, Bala Ngilari, was declared vacant on the grounds of his resignation from office.
