Police arraign man for rape

The police have arraigned 21-year-old Onyebuchi Ebili before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for unlawfully having carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old SS2 girl.

Ebili was said to have committed the offence with the help of two other people.

The incident happened on August 31, 2014 .

Onyebuchi Ebili was arraigned on Wednesday on three counts of rape and theft.

The charges read in part, “That you, Onyebuchi Ebili, and others now at large, on the August 31, 2014, at about 2200 hours, on Church Street, Ilaje Ebute Metta West Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully have canal knowledge of one (name withheld), thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 258 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

“That you, Onyebuchi Ebili and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal one Nokia 206 phone valued at N17,000…”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His defence counsel, Melinda Adebambo, applied for his bail in liberal terms.

The magistrate, E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till October 15.
