Slain FESTAC woman’s family sure of justice

The family of Njideka Nzewi, the woman who was strangled to death by her lover on July 21 in FESTAC, Lagos, has expressed confidence that the judiciary will do justice in the death of its member.

Nzewi , the Chief Executive Officer of Edmark International, was reportedly killed at her residence by Kelechi Eze, 33, who was also said to have run away with her vehicle, mobile phones and ATM cards.

Eze was, however, nabbed in Cote D’voire through the joint efforts of the Interpol and the Nigerian Police while trying to escape to Europe.

Dr. Godwin Okonkwo, brother to the 39-year-old woman, in a statement on behalf of his family, said the apprehension and the ongoing trial of the suspect had mitigated the pains of the family.

“We have no doubt that justice will be done in this matter by the judiciary so that our sister will rest in peace,” Okonkwo added.

The medical doctor also commended the Nigerian Police Force, saying its apprehension of the killer in good time meant that the death of his sister did not go unresolved.

He said the arrest of the assailant through the use of special tracking technology and intelligence was a confirmation of a new era in investigation.

He lauded both the former and the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar and Suleiman Abba for laying the foundation of “a steady improvement in the efficiency” of the Nigeria Police.

He said, “For the past four years that I came back to this country I have noticed a steady improvement in the efficiency of the Nigeria Police which is largely due to the policies put in place by the outgone Inspector General of Police and the incumbent IGP, Suleiman Abba.”

Okonkwo lauded the former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, Area Commander of Area E Command, Dan Okoro and other policemen that investigated the murder and arrested Nzewi’s killer.

The family urged the police and the judiciary not to be distracted by the antics that the defendants might employ to escape justice.
