Mixed Reactions Trail NUC's Suspension Of Medical Laboratory Science Programme

It would be recalled that the NUC on January 9, 2015, suspended admissions into Medical Laboratory Science courses for the 2015/2016 academic session.

There have been mixed reactions following this move by NUC.

According to the Head of Education, Medical Laboratory Council, Alhaji Muftau Abdul-Azeez, the Council has been in dialogue with NUC since the suspension of the programme and has stated clearly the reasons the programme ought to be reinstated into the nation’s academic programme.

An educationist who commented was faulted the decision of NUC to suspend the programnme. According to him, the programme plays a major role in the field of medicine as many hospitals depend on the information from medical laboratory scientist for diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Some students who commented on this, called on the NUC to revoke the ban, describing it as unfair and insensitive.

However another student who commented was of a different opinion according to him, there are many institutions in the country that lack the facilities to run the programme which justifies NUC’s suspension of the programme.
