Ogun State teachers continues strike

Teachers in Ogun State have resolved to continue with their industrial action.
This came as the second meeting they had with representatives of the state government on Tuesday, still did not yield any positive result.
The teachers commenced the strike penultimate on Friday.
Investigations revealed that the first meeting reportedly convened by the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun at Abeokuta, penultimate Saturday, could not hold because they refused to meet with the Secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa.
The leaders of the state chapters of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools insisted on meeting with the governor to resolve all the outstanding issues.
However, the Head of Service, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle, superintended the second meeting, which outcome was not positive.
At the meeting, the government, our correspondent, gathered told the union leaders to return to their members and call off the strike before the dialogue would continue.
The state ASUSS Chairman, Mr. Akeem Lasisi, who confirmed this, noted that there was no way teachers would resume, without the government addressing the grievances.
He said, “Some elders have intervened in the matter and we are expecting to be called for another meeting soon.”
The teachers are kicking against the non-payment of 12.5 per cent Teachers Peculiar Allowance and 2014 leave allowance for Grade level 13 -17, and the withholding of deductions (bank loans, cooperative loans, union dues from October 2014 to date) from their salaries.
