The Kaduna State, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has awarded 125
foreign scholarships to the state’s doctorate, masters and undergraduate
medical students.
It was learnt that the students would study
medical sciences, engineering, applied and natural sciences in Malaysia,
Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Egypt and Uganda.
According
to the governor, the aim of the 2014/2015 Overseas Scholarship Awards
was aimed at improving the human capital to accelerate socio-economic
development of the state.
It was gathered that the candidates
were selected after a thorough screening exercise with all the 23 local
government areas equitably represented.
“There are 22 PhD, 77 MSc
and 26 MBBS candidates selected to pursue their respective programmes
in countries such as Malaysia, Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand,
Egypt and Uganda.”
So far, the administration has spent
N1.4billion on internal and external scholarships since it assumed
office on December 16, 2012 in addition to a recent approval for the
disbursement of N119, 992,692.00 as scholarships to new students.
