Man beheads wife, daughter, commits suicide



46-year-old farm­er, Olubusayo Sunday was al­leged to have be­headed his wife, Oyewole and 3-year-old daughter, Esther, before commit­ting suicide in Onigbedu, Ewekoro Local Govern­ment Area of Ogun State.
Saturday Sun learnt that the tragic incident occurred after a heated argument over a yet undisclosed matter.
A bloodstained knife and a cutlass suspected to have been used by the farmer on his wife and daughter have been recovered from his house by police detectives.
According to the state Police Public Relations Of­ficer, Maida Adejobi, the farmer was discovered to have earlier killed his wife and daughter after but was prevented by neighbours from jumping into a well, having stabbed and set him­self ablaze.
Adejobi, a deputy super­intendent of police, added that Olubusayo later died in the hospital after telling po­lice detectives that a quarrel between him and his wife led to the tragic incident.
The PPRO said, “po­lice detectives attached to Ewekoro Division of the Ogun State police command have commenced investiga­tion into a tragedy that oc­curred on Wednesday, Janu­ary 14, 2015 in Onigbedu town in Ewekoro Local Government when one Olu­busayo Sunday, 46, farmer, beheaded his wife and daughter in his Onigbedu house, and committed sui­cide by stabbing and setting himself ablaze after the ugly incident about 1.15pm.
“The wife and the daugh­ter, were beheaded for rea­sons known to him and the three corpses have been deposited at the General Hospital, Ifo while further investigation into the matter has commenced.
“Up till this moment, no one or any member of the deceased family or neigh­bours could intimate the police with the cause of the incident, but the last state­ment Mr Olubusayo made before he died, in the pres­ence of the police detectives suggested that there was a quarrel between him and his late wife.”
The police spokesman also said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye who expressed shock over the incident had directed that the matter be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta for thorough in­vestigation.
